Problem with TMPGenc

Used chicken mans method for backing up my dvd movies worked great untill i got to the the final product and need to cut it in half and now it seems i have two problems the program is 1.41 megs in size and when i cut and merge in half the file ends up about 750megs per disk and all my cd programs say to insert a disk with enough space to record cd. and also the first half of the moie is ok format but the second half gives an error invalid vcd format but both play perfect in windows media player but would like to play in my dvd player the very first movie i did using chicken mans method worked perfect both disks and by the way that movie was chicken run what a great way to test his method. Any help would be appreciated greatly thanks Gil

firstly look closer at the tutorial. The size of your movie will play a significant role on how you cut it & the CD media you use.
Don't worry too much about the size of the file (just worry about the time/length).
1.41megs is very small (you probs meant 1.41Gigs). How long is the movie exactly? (I can't really tell by the gigs, but looks to be around 2Hrs 30min or more. If that is the case, you might have to put it onto 3 CDs.
You can fit 72min of movie (VCD standard) on a 650meg/74min CDR & 78min of a movie (VCD standard) on a 700meg/80min CDR.

Also when you cut the big 1.41G mpg file into their proper time limits for each CD, make sure you have the "MPEG-1 Video-CD" selected as the Type in the Merge & Cut section. Otherwise you won't get a standard vcd mpg file. Then use Nero to burn (with the VCD template in Nero) & drag & drop your file there. It will check if it is compliant or not.
What is important is also when you encode the movie to make sure you encoded it properly with the VCD standards mentioned (352x240 for NTSC at 29.97fps or 23.976fps depending on type/ or 352x288 for PAL at 25fps. These cannot be changed any other way. VCD is very strict on this issue. Then also bit rate for both should always be 1150 with sound "layer II" at 44100hz 224bits)
Hope that helps.

thanks for your reply did exactly what you said and the problem solved I think the problem was when i went to cut and join it has an auto feature and i just presumed that was the wright one after changing to vcd standard then all of my burning software could burn it and as for where to cut it you were wright there too I went by the min. and cut it at 76 min and that problem was solved too. thanks much GIL

NP, great to see that it worked.
It's a very common issue (even after you've done 200+ VCDs, you sometimes forget to select the MPEG-1 Video-CD type in the cut & murge section).
Just don't forget to always stay within the time limits =).

Gee, I just converted the DVD of Chicken Run to SVCD myself last week ! A great movie, I just hope my Chickens dont get organized though!

lol C!
If you like that movie, you would probs like the wallace & gromit duo from the same creator (nick parks). If you don't have them, let me know (have them made in VCD already (can always upload to the ftp or mail ya with the chocolates lol).

I have Kids One 5 and one 12 and over the years have bought the walace and gromet series on video and the kids really loved them i thought about converting them but didnt think the quality would be good enough. gil
