Problem with TMPGEnc??

Hi - I am fairly new to this, but I was able to convert one part of a movie from MPG to a VCD using the tutorials and TMPGEnc. It plays fine on my DVD player.

But as I try to load the second part into TMPGE (2.57) to convert it, I try to select the video source and I get an error message:

file "...can not open or unsupported"

The second file plays fine on my PC.

Suggestions? - thanks.

how was the original mpegs created? (what method did you use)
*if you got it off the net, then that is probably the problem. Many of them are corrupted or not made properly (even though you can still play them fine with windows media player or some other player*
fixing them, or getting tmpgenc to recognise them properly can be tricky.
What type of mpg is it anyways? (is it an mpeg1 or mpeg 2)

Hi! I recorded several films with WatchTVPro 2.01 in (they say) MPEG 2 format, file ending is .mpg. When I try to get them on SVCD with TMPGEnc plus 2.57 the error "can´t open or unsupported" appears. Any Idea?

TMPGenc cannot accept MPEG2 (SVCD) files directly. Load them into DVD2AVI fist, than save Project and then load these files into TMPGEnc. Then it will convert no probs.

Problem with TMPGEnc

Hi chickenman! I found out that the only thing missing was a plugin for mpeg2 files in TMPGEnc 2.57. Now everything works. I can cut the films and burn them on Cd (but only 30 min/CD in SVCD qualitiy). Maybe I try to make VCD´s.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I've used Tmpgencoder v.256 for some time now. and I've realized that it is by far the best free encoder ever. I guess you encoded your file using Tmpg enc. however, you must be careful in selectin the correct VCD complient features. if you are a NTSC encoder then you have to set the stream type as MPEG 1- video,
the size to 352x240 pixels, the aspect ratio to 4:3 525 lines (NTSC), the frame rate to 29.97, the rate control mode to constant bitrate (CBR), bitrate to 1150 and the buffere size to 40, the audio stream type must be set to MEPG I (audio layer II), the sample frequency must be set to 44100, channel mode to stereo, and the bitrate to 224 kbits/sec. I also mark at the advance features custom color correction. On the other hand you can also work with built in templates, which you'll find right within tmpg encoder directory, where you can choose from a variety of different predefined encoding settings like the one mentioned above or for Pal encoding.

Should you have any question, please contact me.
