Problem with Nvidia drivers

I have a problem installing Nvidia 40.72 drivers in Windows 98
the self extract executable file gives me an error which is
propably related to the operating system. Iam trying to find a link with
40.72 Nvidia drivers so i can install the drivers from the device manager
and not to run the exe file. Any links?

you can unpack the driver package (exe file) by using WinZip, WinAce or WinRAR;

I tend 2 stick with the 30.82 drivers as i have had nothing but hassle & probs with the 40 versions. These range from really jerky intro video(Jedi Knight2) & lot of lockups 4 no real reason. No i aint overclockin it, & when it does work me framerate plummets

Plus they seem 2 have removed a lot of the options in the drivers & seemed 2 me 2 be more designed 4 Geforce 4 upwards

But like Duracell says just right ckick on the file & select unzip or extract.U can then Use device manager 2 install them manually.I tend 2 do it that way as sometimes when installing them using the exe, i get a no known adapter error in registry

Currently using (leaked) 42.01 drivers and directX9 (on a weedy little Geforce 2MX).

There was somewhere detailing a LOT of programs that didn't like the 40.xx drivers, but worked ok with 30.xx

So what DO you get from the latest DX8/9 drivers, on an opld DX7 hardware Geforce/2/2MX/4MX card?

In 3Dmark2001, you still cannot run the Dx8 "nature" test - though the appearance in the demo is not bad.

It may be wishful thinking, but the latest drivers do seem to improve the DX8 software emulation.

Since my whole system seems to be slowly degenerating anyway, I might throw the 43.03 and DX9.0a at it, before finally giving up and reformatting - when I just might stick with the "safe" 28 or 30 (some say that going further back still, are actually better tuned)

It has been said that the 40 and above Win9x version drivers were released in response to pressure from gamers still on Win9x - and are NOT good general purpose drivers, as they never intended them to be other than Win2000/XP originally.

Cheers LTR12101B.Thats some wealth of info

Me using a geforce 2GTS.No probs in any games at all.But when i try the 40.?? my games performance just seemed slower

Not tried 3Dmark 2003 yet as i read that it will only run 1-2 tests on my card anways:(

1 of me mates got a GF4 Ti4200 & i never saw that much difference from his previous card. His games still slow & crash, but he been using the newer drivers.

Reagrding the 40x drivers, i always had a suspsion about that.Either that or they were more optimised 4 GF3 & up

But then i suppose this might be cause of the unified driver they use.I used 2 have TNT2Ultra & just stuck with the 20x ones,Plus they were a smaller d/l.Now even drivers are starting 2 bloat:)

Peace 2 All

Simply follow BBB's suggestion: Update your Windows Installer to version 2.
Newer detonator drivers show a remarkable performance boost under 2000/XP, but under 9X/ME very little has changed.

And then there were the 43.45 drivers. Released today 3/27/03 and they are official. Windows 95/98/Me & Windows XP/2000 are supported. They support M$ DirectX 9 as well.

I gave them a shot and all seems fine (in WinXP ;)). I can see slight color and speed improvements in UT2003 and Splinter Cell. Will report back if I have any problems. ;)

On a Geforce 2, 3Dmark 2003 runs ONE test only - on DirectX8 hardware, it misses one test only, and on Dx9 hardware (eg Radeon 95/97/9800, Geforce FX) it runs all tests.

Do you get NvRotate with a Geforce2 - newsgroups are full of complaints that it doesn't do it!

I have a Geforce4 Ti 4200 with drivers 41.09 in XP and everything works fine, they have great options for working with two monitors wich is how I currently run my system, I haven´t had any problem with games and seems to me that they run better with this version of drivers but I don´t pay much of attention to framerates so I don´t have a real point of reference so in the weekend I´ll make some time to see how 3Dmark 2003 responds and let you know about the results.

Also I still have around my old Geforce2 MX400 so I´ll make tests with both cards.

don't try the 2003 version with your ti4200; for sure you will be frustrated about the results;

But 1 of me m8 loves the newer version(40.xx) as he runs a dual monitor setup 2

Just wish they do working driver instead of bolting on new features
