Problem with Nero or my burner?

looking for any help...

i was using an external CD-RW with Nero 5503. i upgraded to an internal CD-RW. i don't burn a lot so i went w/ a Cicero 12x8x32 b/c it was cheap. (future shop sells cicero products, but they don't seem to be supported anywhere. i can't even find a website.)

anyway, after i installed the drive, Nero 5503 wouldn't recognize it (not supported), so i upgraded to Nero 5572.

once Nero 5572 was installed, the drive was recognized and i did a test burn by adding some data to an existing data CD. everything seemed to work fine.

a day later, i went to burn a music CD [ direct burn from hard drive to CD-writer at 6x speed using mp3 files ]. i used the test and burn option, but the simulation failed. it came back with an error that said "Diagnostic failure".

i used the Nero help menu, but wasn't able to find out what this means. is this a problem with the software or is it something with the drive?

any ideas / suggestions would be appreciated.

i'm hoping it's not a hardware problem. is there any reason why it would write data cd's but not audio ones?

it worked a couple of days ago (data) and i never physically changed any settings since then, but i was fooling around with my home network. maybe i buggered something up.

my DMA for the CD-RW is currently enabled. i thought i had it disabled previously so i might try that as a next step.

i'm not quite ready to repack it and return it. my big fear is that i would take it back, they would test it, and say, "hey loser, it works fine. you just didn't have it set up properly."

Hi bud...The Cicero burners are all Futureshop rebadges,same goes for their other Cicero hardware/software..They could be any brand(I live in Canada and have shopped there).

DMA is not needed for the writer,it doesn't support it.

If you don't like the writer,bring it back,I have done this a few times.They won't hassle you.Just tell them you think it is defective. Won't write,or(make something up)they don't check it.

Get a name brand.They carry Sony,Yamaha,Mitsumi,L.G.,etc.
