Problem with Nero 6.0.11 and burning DVD data disk

Hi,

I'm trying Nero 6.011 and have no problems with burning audio/data CDR disks . However, when I try to burn a DVD data disk Nero tells me that my Panasonic DVD Burner is in use with another program. That can't be, so I'm really puzzled. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

inCD crap installed too? Or possibly another burning app like Prassi PrimoDVD or RecordNow?
Nero6 is a major pain in the... ehm... elbow.

No, I don't have Incd crap installed! No other CD Burner software. On checking I do have Ulead DVD Picture Show (also crap) installed. I'll uninstall that and see if it helps. Thanks.

The ulead program cannot be the reason. If you are using a DVD region fixing utility disable it. You should also disable the Imapi service of Windows XP, if it is active.

Hi,

I'm not usinf a DVD region fixing utility. I'm not aware if the Imapi Service of Windows XP is active. Please excuse my ignorance but can you tell me how do I check that? I did a search in Xp and found no mention! If it relates to the Windows XP own burning software, that has been removed. Thanks for your help.

control panel/administrative tools/services. Find there the extaned tab, sort the services in alphabetical order, find the IMAPI service. Righclick and choose "properties", and set it to disabled.
Now try your Nero again. I don't like this software at all, but at least it should TRY to burn a DVD, and not abandon right at the start.

Many thanks scarecrow. The IMAPI service was set to manual, so I disabled it as you instructed. Bingo...Nero now burns a DVD data disk. I can't thank you enough. I'm not a lover of Nero either really, but thought I'd give version 6 a try. What software do you use if you hate Nero so much?

OK gang... here's another N6 question. If I choose to create a data disc (ISO, CD or DVD), 98% of the time things are great. However, every once in a while, when I go to drag files from the file picker to the disc window, the program blows up and exits. It's always consistent with certain files. They are .MPGs or .AVIs, usually in the 800M range. I can't find any rhyme or reason to which ones will cause it. Sometimes I have a 3 file set, and only one of the parts causes the problem.

When this happens, I can always use RecordNow Max to do the same files with no problems. So it's not like the file or catalog is corrupted.

Any ideas?

I don't really hate Nero... and it's not my fault tat it worx randomly.
My main mastering and burning app is RecordNow (Max, although DX version is fine too) and Padus Discluggler. Both put Nero at shame, but FEW people will be eager to admit it...
Have in mind though that Nero6+ RecordNow seem to conflict- while Nero 5.5.X did not have issues.

I had the same problem with my drives when i upgraded to Nero 6.0.0.9. The way I fixed it was the following:

In the RUN dialogue box type: services.msc

Scroll to the IMAPI CD-Burning service. Right-Click & select PROPERTIES and then on the General Tab, select disable in the Startup type.

Once this is done Nero started burning like normal.

..I tried that too, but what I need to know is why Nero WILL NOT do any simulation test burns when I attempt to add data to my DVD+R disk...the simulation test button is always "greyed out"

Most likely because +R has defect management embedded.

Problem with Nero 6.0.11 and

Please deactivate the Windows-XP imapi.

Choose
>Start
>properties
>Control Panel
>Administration
>Services and applications
>Services
>Imapi

Make a rightclick on properties, make startup type MANUAL.

Worked for me....

Where are you all getting Nero6 from anyway?. I note that one of you states: I Am TRYING Nero6.
I wish I was trying Nero6!.
To date I have had no problem using Nero5 but would love to upgrade it to Nero6. Make some music BigBoys, where can I download it for ZILCHIES?.

I have got that on a CD, but I can't get it to load/work, admitted i'm only a novice. In retrospect I think it is on the CD TWICE = two versions. Give me the message STRAWMAN!.
