problem with linksys 10/100 LAN Card

Ok heres my problem. I bought this card and installed it properly. My computer knows its there and i cant use it until i can install the driver. when i tried to install the driver it said "An error occurred during the installation of the device. The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name"

i have an old 8655c hp computer. a friend said it might be some hardware support problem when i upgraded from 98se to xp pro and the linksys tech support said it was a problem with my IRQ(whatever that is)

so can anyone help? i would really appreciate it

Does the driver have an install routine?

Have U tried installin the driver manually, just opn device manager & then find the entry 4 the network card & then double click it & select the driver tab & then update driver(U can only do this if the driver files are on the disk loose)then try updatin the driver that way

If U got XP, then that usually installs basic drivers, just enough 2 get the card workin

U could also try removing the card in device manager & then click refresh & it might hopefully ask U 4 the drivers

If U are installin it manually, then the file U need is XXX.inf(that's the driver install file that tells it where 2 put the files

Im not an expert with network cards, but i hope it helps

hey thanks for welcoming me to the forum, but i have tried everything you listed already... i tried the device manager thing and also deleting and refreshing and it still came out with the same error... but thanks for you help, hopefully someone else might have some more suggestion

Try going into Device manager and uninstalling the network card(highlight device/right click/uninstall) then shut down,remove the card from its present slot and relocate it to another slot

Rubbish! I installed XP on the computer Noah used when he got off the Ark and it's still working now.

Try a 3com card.I use a 3c905 TX with no probs......XP loves 'em.
