Problem with Audio desync

SVCD created from DVD "ICE AGE" (with DVD2SVCD) has audio desync (never had this problem in the past) !
Audio in DVD starts only after 28 seconds... but audio in SVCD
starts immediately !
I have still all the files on my HD (Encoded_Video_CCE_Pal.mpv, Encoded_audio_1.mp2, Encoded_audio_2.mp2 and all subtitles in the Subs directory)
So my first attempt was to introduce 28 seconds silence in the 2 audio files (.mp2)... but all the sound editors I've tried refuse to save the file as Mpeg 1 layer 2 !
Is there a way to prevent the audio playing too early (like VirtualDub for DivX) !
BTW... is there a good tutorial explaining STEP BY STEP all the process of DVD2SVCD... as I want to encode the next Dvd to SVCD MANUALLY !

Many Thanks for any help !

Unfortunately I'm hearing more and more of this problem, I think the publishers are trying to make things difficult for us.

Simple solution is to re-rip the DVD to HD without the first chapter, and re encode but thats to darn long.

This is basically waht bbMPEG does in DVD2SVCD, we are just doing it manually but putting in a 28sec offset for the audio.

In the bbMPEG folder of DVD2SVCD, run AVI2MPEG2, hit Start Encoding button, then Settings. In the General Settings Tab, enter 795 in Max Size (MB) box. In the Input Out Files tab, for Open PS give a valid save file name, in Open VS, point the the DVD2SVCD created *.mpv file and for Open AS1 point to the *.mp2 file. In the Program Stream Settings, click on SVCD option. Then in the Startup Delay (ms) box enter 28,180 for Audio and leave Video at 180. Do NOT cahnge any of the other setting here. Click on OK and then Start. It will now mux the 2 files together with a 28sec delay for the audio (re-syncing to video) and cut the resultant MPEG file for max size for 80min CDR's.

Thanks for your help ChickenMan.
I did what you told me...audio is sync now... but nevertheless I have a strange problem :
The first Mpg file has 28 seconds audio at the end of the video...
and the second Mpg file has the first 28 seconds video... silence !
Are we missing something ?

Hmm.. not I've never had that problem. I would suggest you dont cut the MPG then when fixing the sync problem and then cut it with TMPGEnc. It sound like its applying the 28sec ofset to both CD's You may end up with some extra audio at the very end of the cradits, again cut that off when using TMPGEnc.

Another solution is the use Wombles MPEG2VCR. Again mux the video and audio together and there is an AV-Sync button. Change the scale to allow you to select +28sec. Then cut the large mpg file again with TMPGenc or MPEG2VCR.

AAAHHH... this make me CRAZY !

Mux Video and audio (this time only 1 audio stream) into 1 big file...
Result is OK... View with WMP and Power DVD XP !

Then I cut the file with TMPGEnc for burning the Disc 1...
And what is the result of the new file on HD...
Sound is playing immediately with the video... so we have again a
constant time difference of 28 seconds till the end of the movie !
How is this POSSIBLE ????

Haha, sorry for that, sounds like your not having a good day !

Then use MPEG2VCR to cut the large mpg file or demux the large mpg file (with MPEG2VCR) and re-mux with bbMPEG as I decribed above but now with no audio offset applied.

Best of luck!

First try :
I cut the large mpg file with MPEG2VCR... audio is sync... but video has no sound the last 28 seconds !

Second try :
demux the large mpg file with MPEG2VCR and re-mux with bbMPEG (with no audio offset)... but audio is playing immediately !

Third try :
demux the large mpg file with MPEG2VCR and re-mux with bbMPEG with audio offset of 28 seconds...
audio sync ok but audio is playing during 28 seconds after the end of video for the 1st file and no audio is playing during the first 28 seconds of the second file !

I think I'm gonna cut from start of the video file (.mpv file) exactely 700 frames (28 seconds x 25 frames/sec)... this should probably clear up this crazy thing !

What is the best tool for this... TMPGenc or DVD2BVCR ?

Use mpeg2vcr (or M2-Edit) as you can get frame by frame accuracy. Tmpgenc always jumps back to the next start of a GOP

VOILA...YEAH... I managed it at last with your help... ChickenMan !
(I didn't cut frames from the beginning of the video because I got another aspect ratio of the movie... height of movie was smaller ! but starting from Frame 50, Mpg2VCR did a good job !)
Movie is playing in perfect order now !

Many Thanks for your help ChickenMan,

:) :) :) :) :)

No probs m8, good to hear it all worked out in the end. By the way, its a good movie as well, worth the challenge in getting it right.
