Problem whith Windows 2000 and doc files

I have put a second hard disk in a PC with Windows 2000 and Office XP installed. When i try to open the doc files from the second hard disk i get the message that the user doesn't have the rights to open the file. Also when i try to copy the same files i get the message "Access is denied. The source file may be in use" Any help?

The drive is NTFS formated? The files were not written on your current system? They are made by another PC?
so currently you haven't the permission to do anything with these files; first you have to make those "to your own";
take a look at the Windows helpfile, how to become the owner of files/folders/partitions;

If the "other" drive has used NTFS encryption on another PC (or even another 2K/XP installation on the same PC) then they cannot be decrypted- just format the drive and forget the files.

Duracell the drive is ntrfs, the files are not written on my system and htey are made at the pc that the disk was installed

take the drive and put it back to the original PC;
there decrypt the files and set the permissions for the whole drive (include subfolders and files) to "all users => full permissions"; then place it back into your PC;

or like scarecrow told: "just format the drive and forget the files"
