problem connecting video camera to pc

i've just bought a video camera and cannot connect it to my pc. it came with usb cable included. the pc recognizes the camera but the software cannot communicate with it. pls don't ask what software cause i don't know. it's the camera's soft package - noname :(
the camera is a medion md 9035.
do i absolutely need firewire?
anything would be really helpful. including any links on the web to this camera model cause i couldn't find any :(.
tx in advance.

MOST usb hardware tends to install better if you install the software first then reboot then connect the device :)

from experience this works better than trying to fit the device then install the software as this causes the system to try find its own drivers within windows and can cause problems :(

tx guys!

tx for the quick answer guys!

tx poco. i'll follow the link right away! hope to find something in the manual...

yes, The-poacher, i will introduce myself to y'all as soon as possible.
...i meen very soon :)

VIPER_1069 - indeed i have installe dthe camera first and after that the software... i'll do it the other way round when i get home :) ...today

and i have another question: is ilink (IEEE 1394) transmission better than usb - when it comes to transferring the video from my camera to pc? i have absolutely no experience with cameras and really need some help.

tx again.

hello.

Hello. I got one medion 9035 too and i have the same problem. Can anyone help me? Didn't worked installing the software first then i connected the cam.

What version of Windows? XP should add a mass storage device driver for you; 2000 will need a proprietary driver 9 times out of 10. Good luck in Win95b/c and above...

Windows XP. and i need drivers...i got the one from german site and they are useless...it says the cam it's ready to use but programs don't detect it :( and when i restart it asks me for drivers again...

Does the camera have firewire? If so, USE it. Unless the USB is 2.0 and not just used for web cam access (not recording), there is no reason to use USB. Firewire is the defacto standard for recording from DV cameras - Pinnacle Studio, Premier, SceneAlyzer Live all use firewire with DV camera drivers (MS built in with Windows XP).
I have a Sony TRV-27 and record great with firewire; the USB is only for streaming video to use as an overpriced webcam.

indeed usb doesn't work. i can get the pc to see the camera, it receives some video but the quality is VERY bad. u can hardly recognize what it's recording.

...so i'll have to buy firewire access. :(

Same with a friend's one - USB is used only for stills transfer from the memory stick, not for video (but maybe for webcam)

Firewire cards aren't hugely expensive here, but other than Count Dracula, I know nothing about Transylvania.

... Sonys have it as a streaming USB for webcams, but firewire is the only way to go right now for video.

... It's in Romanie, silly!

Transylvania is indeed in ROMANIA :)))).
Prices for firewire are here HUGE! I mean, with the same price u can buy a motherboard with firewire and so on included. this is what i did :) - i changed my motherboard and now everything is running just fine.
questions are now what software to use in order to capture. i tried out pinnacle studio 7 and ulead video studio. can anybody give me some more hints in this direction?

tx to everyone!

So many but here's some you may want to read up on B4 you part your with cash...Sony DVgate motion...VegasVideo v4. :)

Again, I would also look at Adobe Premier (Very expensive, and VegasVideo 4 does just as good); SceneAlyzer Live - does great camera to AVI captures; an all-in-1 for less money is Pinnacle Studio 8 - can capture to AVI or to MPG2 for DVD)
