Premium Problem! Help!

I just bought the plextor premium cd writer and installed the drivers, updated them, updated the firmware. I have problems with burning cd's. Sometimes the burn process stops, and the light turn green. The software keeps counting but the plextor drive stays frozen with the green light on. When this occurs the buffer is always at maximum. This problem happens a lot, since i bought the drive, and even after firmware update (1.3). Usualy, in a box of 10 cd's the plextor drive ruin half of them! I'm very disapointing with my new plextor drive and i don´t know what to do to solve this problem.
I'm using Windows XP and Windows 98SE. The problem occurs in both OS. It occurs burning from HDD and on the fly. I tried many diferent versions of Nero, even version 6.0.0.11 and the latest Plextools Professional 2.06.
I have Pentium 3 500Mhz, mainboard Abit Be6 (Raid), Seagate 80GB ATA100 (Primary master Raid), PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-106 (Primary master), Plextor Premium (Secondary master).
Please help!

Sorry for my bad english

I'm not real sure..but I don't think that drive supports On the Fly....have you tried Track at Once...Disk at Once..or Session at Once...which that drive supports....have you tried to burn at a lower speed..for example x24 and see...if thats works..if it does...then its the either the drive can't keep up with the data..or vice versa....similar to a buffer-underrun

Have you checked the aspi's? Is your dma for all drives on? (even the hdd) Is the autoplay function for the drive off?

Just one thing to add.Could it also be a media problem, after checking other advice? Are you using recommended by Plextor media?

Also,"On the fly" is never a good idea.Data must be transferred quickly from source drive to burner. If burning at full speed with the Plex,it is quite possible the source can't transfer data quickly enough.

its always a good idea for ON THE FLY copies to work properly is to have one CDROM on each IDE not on the same cable or you will have problems!

you really need to have both the reader and the writer on the very end of the IDE cables with hard drives and aything else such as hard drives etc down the IDE cables after the cdroms :)

Thanks for trying to help, guys. :) But i thinks this is a bit more complicated, so:
jroc, i think all recent cd writers suport copy On the Fly (copy cd to cd), and the best Plextor Cd Writer ( the Premium) also suports On the Fly copy. I have tried to burn at lower speed, with Power Rec enable (that limits burn speed) and disable. The feature burn-proof works well when bufferr-underun occurs. The problem is that it stops for no aparent reason with buffer at 100%.
Blane, aspi is fine, i use aspichck. The Primary Master pioner DVD uses Ultra DMA Mode 2. The Secondary Master Plextor Premium uses Multi-Word DMA Mode 2. The Seagate 80GB uses Primary Master IDE on-board Raid controller. The autoplay is turned off.
woody, i tried many types of media: TDK, MMORE, SKY, Princo, Mitsai, Sony, etc. The problem occurs not only On the Fly, but also burning from HDD.
VIPER_1069, I have Seagate 80GB ATA100 (Primary master IDE on-board Raid controller), PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-106 (Primary master), Plextor Premium (Secondary master). I have all the drives alone on each IDE.
I have all set "by the book". I don´t understand this problem. The best Plextor Cd writer should´t act like this. It should be burn-proof at 100%. By the way, before a had a LG 52x24x52x in the same conditions and it worked just fine. I only decided to buy a Plextor for a better reliability.
I was told by a couple of friends that for certainty i have a faulty drive.
I must contact Plextor technical services.
Compliments
Sory for my bad english.

Yes,seems you have exhausted all the possibilities. ;) Only thing I can think of left is to check the IDE cable.Looks like it needs to go back.

Yeah it seems that everyone here covered everything so it's gotta be the drive and that's usually the last thing you look for to have a problem with but, it does happen. So time for them to replace it.

Would you please attach a list with ALL the files that are present in the folder c:\windows\system\iosubsys ? (for the W98 system).
Moreover, do you see in there a file named "scsi1hlp.vxd" and some other .vxd files starting with "cdr" ?
For the XP system: Is IMAPI disabled?

Don´t activate the dma jumber at the back !!!

i hope that you didn´t activated it....??

But If you did then you will get multiword dma..and mostly a lot of problems with your burning apps and the intel bx chipset

If the jumber isn´t activated and you have still the problems then try the pio mode for your writer.

The Secondary Master Plextor Premium uses Multi-Word DMA Mode 2
I have to read more carefully ...sorry

Multi-Word DMA is your problem...kick the jumber at the back of the drive ;)

Yeah, send it back,it`s faulty. You could try upgrading the firmware (could be corrupted)but I don`t think that would make any difference.I still swear by Plextor though-they`re still the best...

Surely it isn't faulty... But I would never hook a burner on a RAID controller- and on a BX chipset I would use NO additional busmaster drivers, just the OS embedded ones.
BX supports natively devices up to UDMA-33, which is just fine for most of the cases.
