Plextor 24x refuses 90% of disks !

Its not just the cheapies now. My Plex which previously recorded CMC Ritek et al quite happily and at top speed too, now refuses to record virtually everything via NTI and CDMate takes and age (45 minutes !!!!) on pre-mastering but does not START burning. Nero just freezes,

Seems to me that your system is messed up.......check your aspi and uninstall some burning apps.....maybe it helps..:)

Odd though that its worked fine before with MORE burning apps than I have on at the moment. But I'll take a couple off anyway !

Believe me, I would never EVER buy a Plextor again, massively expensive, and the only thing it has going for it is the warranty. My son has a Sony (rebadged Lite-on) and has had no problem whatsoever. Plextor's help is crap of the first order, and its about time people began to realise that their day is ended. This is the Lite on age !

Don't assume that Lite-on is the answer to everyone's dreams. I bought one and ended up with coasters, particularly when I used better - ie non-Ritek discs. So I bought a Plextor and just like my previous Plextor, have had no problems and I reckon I have burned no less than 300 discs on it so far.

If you are able to install and test the Plextor in another computer, then you may get your answer as to whether it is the Plextor.

Personally, I would always trust Plextor in preference to any other brand and with the continuing reductions in CD writer prices I have to say that I don't find them massively expensive but I do find them solid and well-built.

Plextor SCSI are dogs blx but their IDE although a good burner are too pricey

LiteOn are cheap reliable & burn onto handkerchiefs never mind cheap CDR

Speak as you find, obviously. Its like the old rule-of-thumb says "If it works for you, then its great" unfortunately, my Plex has given up on me, and I now have a Lite-On. And the main point of my rant is being sent in circles by their "help".
