Please recommend a DVD burner with fast CD write speed

I need a reliable 4x DVD +R/-R burner that will also burn CDs reliably and fast because my old CD burner is too slow and does not have buffer under run protection.

Of the DVD burners, I am thinking of three 1. Pioneer 106 (OEM of A06) which has good DVD burning speeds but slow CD burning speeds but proven good performance,

2. Gigagyte GO-WO404A which has 4x DVD and fast CD burning speeds but unknown quality and reliability.

3. Liteon LDW-411S (Soon to be replaced by LDW-451S with different hopefully improved lasers) which is 4x DVD of unknown quality bur good fast CD burning speeds.

Can any owners comment for or against the above burners.

Re Your DVD burner
I find it strange that U are gonna get a DVD burner but your priority is CD burning
I have never burned a CDR with any of my DVD burners
From your list I would recommend the Pioneer but it may be a good idea to wait
there are better quicker burners on the way.:):)

The Gigabyte is an OEM Hitachi/Lucky Goldstar LG 4040B drive, which is quite good.
Best/fastest one you can afford is Plextor 708:
8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 12x DVD-ROM
4x DVD-R, 2x DVD-RW, 12x DVD-ROM
40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, 40x CD Read
Reliability, next to none.
If I was you I would buy a separate box for CD burning... the most expensive CDRW currently is the Plextor Premium at 100 $, while the rest of the best cost just half as much, or maybe even less. That way you wouldn't stress your DVD burner too much.

What are the better DVD burners coming

Poacher what are the better DVD burners coming in your opinion and when to be released.

The 2.4x dual layer Philips 8.7 GB DVD/+R due mid year and dual layer 8.7 GB Pioneer DVD/-R due later in the year are of major interest I think.

Any 4x DVD dual format single layer burner will be OK until then as long as it is reliable and has good media compatibility until the dual layer burners are released and are proven to be reliable.

The OptoRite DD0401 also has a 40x CD-R speed, 24x CD-RW and 24x HD-Burn (double capacity on selected CD-R media). as well as 8x DVD+R (on selected 4x media).

DD0203 is 24x CD-R, 10x CD-RW, HD-Burn (speed not stated) and is a 4x dual.

Rather mixed opinions on them though - some say they're excellent, others not.

Re new burners dont really know but I reckon as per Scarecrow media will be a problem

The pioneer 106 is very media friendly (I reckon it will burn onto beer mats)
I have it & a Sony 500 which is very picky with cheap media <> it prefers Sony or Ritek media.
I use only Ritek with G04 dye & have not had problems with either!

I have a plextor px-708a which I cannot fault. Expensive but good. I know it burns ritek discs well, don't know about cheaper media. I had a 106 also which was very reliable and quite cheap (£84). As for burning cdr I would get a separate unit for that. If you wear out your DVD writer laser it will cost a lot more to replace than a CD writer. Same goes for ripping DVD get a separate DVD-ROM.

I have the Optorite DD0401 great drive. I burn ritek G04's other than that I use DVD+rs Memorex and Sony and I burn at 8x with out a problem burning or playing back. Also when the new firmware update comes out to let this drive burn -Rs at 8x I be even more of a happy camper. :D I also use Memorex DVD+RW @ 4x with out a problem either. I also agree with not using the dvd burner to burn cdr's or rip dvds I used a liteon LTR-52327S for cdrs and I use a liteon HD-166s DVD-Rom for ripping. I recommend any one of these drives and you will be happy with any one of them. The best thing I can tell you is what ever drive you do buy just use it for the main thing it does and don't use it as a multi drive. One last thing you get what you pay for when it comes to - media, so if you use cheap media let me know if you can read the data in six months. Good luck with what ever you buy.

Turns out all the + media is RICOH.
