Please Help!: Updated Nero causes problem

Ive just updated Nero 5.5.** to 5.5.10 and since then my DVD-r (MAT****A DVD RAM LF-D310) is unable to write. It plays OK. When i get to the write dialog, it just seems to freeze up on "checking Disc". I have checked my ASPI settings using the checking prog, and that seems to be ok, I havent updated my DVD-R firmware (CA113), as it was working fine before...
Any solutions would be great!

Hey Thanks, nice to meet you...
Ive updated Firmware, still not working...I cant go back to old version as the SW came with the DVD drive, but with no disk (is this unusal?)
The other thing is that Nero Info tool crashes the system each time it scans the DVD drive... something is seroiusly wrong here,
any other suggestions?

Device manager Remove your drive Reboot so drive is recognised

Also if this dont work <> if U can try it in another PC

Cheers again,
Ive tried all these suggestions, updated to 5.5.10.56, removed from device manage and rebooted, Cant try in another PC... not sure about conflict with vitual drive, i dont have any of those (Daemon/Alcohol/CloneCD/AnyDVD) installed. Could it be that because the drive can bundled with Nero 5.5.3 that it will only work with that version? if so, how can I go back if i dont have the disk? The orgianal version of NERO wouldnt let me write to my CDR, but since Ive updated I can write to CDR but not to DVDR...
I really appreciate all your help so far, Poacher and Duracell- but are there any more possibilities? You suggested RecordNowMax, will this definately work with my drive?

A Quick Update,,,,

Info Tool is now working, I removed the files created by neroASplen.exe (winaspi32.dll and NeroApix.vxd), so i can see all the drive info, however this has not fixed the no dvd burn problem. :(

Another update,,,,

in Nero Info tool under Drive, General, read speed and write speed are N/A... is this right?

And another Update,,,,

OK I think Ive found the solution. I deactivated the auto insert under device manager and hey presto, crisis over.
Why did this work?
anyway thanks for all the help, ill be looking up all the other advice you guys offer

Cheers

@Duracell

it doesn´t look like XP, does it ?

Looks like ME or 98/95 so it can´t be a problem of Xp´s internal burning engine. ;)

@tim@editel

did you selected the dvd ? Direct under new comilation you are able to select if you like to burn a cd or a dvd. In most cases cd is preselected.

The OS should be 9X or ME... there is a .vxd installed in there.
I don't think Ahead pays much attention at 9X on their latest releases... but since the DMA problem is resolved (?!) with AIN deactivated, then OK.

yeah, OS is 98. Is it worth going to XP? but since my problem is now solved im happy, thanks again.
Trial and error paid off.
Have a great weekend everybody

Win 2000 will run with "just" 128 MB of RAM- although not terribly smoothly. XP will really suffer.
Consider adding more RAM, up to 256 or more- hey, it's cheap!
Win98 vs. 2000 or even XP is like a VW beatle trying to compete with a Ferrari.
