please help. slow external dvd-rw drive.

Hi. My brother bought an external Sony DRX-500UL dvd burner and he is using it with his laptop, but it is very slow burning at 4x, my internal Pioneer 105 only takes 15 minutes to burn a complete 4.plus Gigs and his takes more than an hour. Anyways he was told to buy a 2.0 usb cable to make faster (normal speed) and he got that but it is the same thing. What can he do? his O.S is window xp home edition, 20Gigs. 256 Ram.

is it usb 2.0 enabled???Also i remember seeing fix on windos update site regarding usb 1 and 2..Did you check that??????
Also be sure when comparing to do the same task..Couse i guess(dont have a dvd burner yet) that trqnscoding should be slower then copying....
Anyway,sorry couse cant help more.....
Hopefully some dvd owners will jump in to help
