Playing DVD

I have a Sony SAV 3000 dvd unit. I have a strange problem with a dvd.
When the dvd is inserted, it plays all the film trailers O.K. then goes to the main menu. When I select 'play movie' the dvd start to play at the first chapter for 2 seconds then goes to the 2nd chapter and so on until all chapters have played for two seconds each, then it goes back to the main menu. Can anyone help to overcome this problem?
