Playing 99 min cdr's

Can standalone dvd players play a vcd burnt to a 99 min cdr, I seem to be reading mixed opinions, perhaps someone in the know can bring me up to speed.

I can play 99min CDR's on my Hiteker (Apex) DVD player no probs from start to end. But I burn at no more than 8x on these

Others have experianced problem in not reading past the 95 min mark, etc. I'm sure any problems would lie with the actual DVD player and its firmware.
