Playback problem with PS2 on backups?

Hello, I have some problem playing backup copies (DVD-R) onto my PS2. The game loads very slowly and sometimes freezes, especially during fmvs and clips. I have already tired buring at different speeds (1x, lowest), used different media brand including the popular Ritek G03 discs, used different bruing software (Nero, Alcohol 120%, DVD Decrypter etc.). However the playback problem still persists. My burner is NEC ND-2500A. I could burn XBOX games fine almost flawlessly, but just not the PS2's.
By the way, I have the oldest PS2 model (first one that comes out), dunno if this matters at all. Any experts here could tell me what might be the cause here? Thank you very much in advance

If you know for sure that your backups work (try playing in someone else PSX) THEN I would try using DVD+R disc its worth a try.

First update the firmware on your NEC and I'm not sure that the PS2 plays dvd+r. Being that you have an earlier ps2 system maybe it's starting to just have read error problems. Probably to old for the sony warranty but, there is a fix here.

And do your original ps2 discs play fine?

It seems that there's no firmware updates yet for this burner, mine is the latest 1.06, at least not that I know of. But if you know there is an update, please point out the link. I haven't tried playing backup on other PS2 yet, but I don't think it's the disc read error in my system since the original games play just fine. Perhaps, my model does not support playing backup that well?
