Pioneer Japan, has announced today that it will introduce a new ATAPI DVD/CD, the DVR-A06-J, in Japan, in June of this year. The new drive will support writing of both DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs. The supported writing speed for the DVD-R and DVD+R format is 4x, while writing at DVD-RW can be obtained at 2x and the DVD+RW at 2.4x.
The worldwide market for recordable DVD drives for personal computers (DVD writers) is expanding at a tremendous rate. According to Pioneer research, about 70% of the DVD writers shipped up until the end of 2002 supported the DVD-R/RW format.
