Pioneer DVR-106D can't read CD-RW

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my Pioneer DVR-106D.
Since I used a CD Lens cleaner Disk, my DVD driver can't read CD-RW anymore.
And it failed to burn an audio CD. After burning (Nero didn't say anything) the CD is empty.
I have flashed the firmware to version 1.07, but no change.
What is going on ? Did I broke my DRV ?

Can someone help me ? I haven't done any test with DVD-R/W

Best thanx

Guillaume

Oh no!hope it's under warranty.NEVER EVER use those things. This is for EVERYONE!They can damage the laser.

Was it working okay before you used it?

Please give details of operating system, and burning software you have installed.Have you updated the aspi layer, etc?

I woody,

Yes, it was working fine before that ! I do have a warranty thaugh since I baught it 2 monts ago.
I'm using WindowsXP Pro SP1, and many Update from Microsoft (against blaster worm). I reinstall XP yesterday evening, in case of it was a driver problem, but no success. Still nothing in the explorer when I insert my cd-rw. I know the cd works since I can read it at my office.
I haven't touch to the ASPI layer for the moment, I haven't install anything external from Windows XP.
I don't even have installed Nero yet.
I have the install of the Adaptec ASPI drivers v4.71. Do I have to install them ? Do I have to do something with the DMA ?

Thanx for your help

If the Cleaning CD brushes have broken the lens suspension, NOTHING you do with drivers is going to make any difference - the one odd thing is that you say it burned (but blank) a CD, if the optical side was that badly damaged, I'm surprised it didn't abort with a tracking error.

Manual-play an audio CD to headphone socket, using the PLAY button if it has one, or try using a boot Floppy with CD-ROM support - both methods are not dependent on the vagaries of the Windows ASPI layer.

But if the tale appears to be:
It worked, you used a cleaning CD, It doesn't work, then there aren't many alternative conclusions that can be drawn.

PS. In addition to not using a cleaning CD, NEVER use ASPI 4.71
ASPI > 4.6 seems to be a source of neverending problems for CD-R applications!

Hi, thanx for your reply,

That's exactly the story that happend. So I think I'm good for using the warrenty :(

Hope they won't be any problem, and that won't take too much time.

I don't have floppy drive (I have a shuttle, no floppy), but I will burn a bootable DOS cd-rom with an external CD Writer, and I will do the tests.

Thanx

Miros
