Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105 won't read DVD-Rs

I'm using a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105 drive to burn some dvds but whenever I try to, the (F:) drive where the Pioneer is set to, responses with - F:\ is not accessible, incorrect function. It can read CDs and DVDs. Also whenever I put a DVD-R in the drive, the (F:) changes from a DVD-RW to a CD Drive. I checked Nero and says I'm using a V1.21 firmware if that might help with this.. and I'm using a Memorex DVD-R, OS - XP.

I am also having a similiar problem with the same Pioneer drive using windows XP. I tried burning DVD-R and DVD-RW with InstantWrite but started getting errors read and write errors. Pioneer suggested I switch to PIO mode. That didn't help. Now I switched back and some of my DVD-R's are unreadable. The drive changes
from being a DVD-R drive to a CD drive. When I try to open it it says its not accessible. Incorrect function.

Any DVD-RW I try to format using Easy CD creator and Nero now becomes unusable. I start with brand new DVD-RW media and I tried to burn data to it. I get an error with Nero saying Session Fixation Error. Then when I try to erase the DVD-RW it says please insert a blank media. Thanks!

First of all anytime your talking about media I would say you should state what the real brand is.
What does DVD Decrypter say it is?
So far I'm coming to the conclusion that most DVD-RW media is a wast of money!!!!

Well Memorex which you can see is TDK and it SUCK'S infact its so bad I'm bring it back!!!! I wrote to it once and formated it an now I can't write to it any more!!! By the way it wouldn't write to it at 2X, I set it for 2x but it took an hour to write to it!!! From what I've read on the internet TDK is one of the worst DVD media. So far comp brand I wrote to it 3 times but I can only write at 1x. At least the case did said 1x not like the Memcrap!!!! So I would say from what I've seen and read you don't get alot of writes on DVD-RW for some reason. I think its just crap media. I've also came to the conclusion that I will never buy Memcrap media agian!!!!!

As far as fdbgdg problem goes you should give us some more details when you have a problem.
Have tried other media other then Memcrap? How are your Ide's set up? What is your brand Mother board?
Other than that just my 2 cents take it for what it's worth and I 'm sure other people have their own ideas. Good luck. :D

Take a look here..and here..

If the above posted links from MS don't help,be sure to ask for more help. That said,I have never had Easy Cd/dvd creator installed on my computer.Seems most people that install it have problems somewhere down the road. ;)

V1.21 firmware <=== update to v1.33 meant to fix reading probs .. use the hack version or orig from Pioneer site

Thanks for your help with the Microsoft page, but I was using a version of Easy CD greater than 4.x.

A little more info on my system and tests run:

Pentium III - Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 1)
CdRomPeripheral : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On
Physical memory : 511MB (523568kB)
Free physical memory: 306MB (313440kB)
----------------------------------------
My first test was successful writing 2 video DVD-R's (Pioneer and Memorex) using Impression DVD - DMA mode. So then I needed to back-up some files and wanted to make a data dvd. I started using a Pioneer DVD-RW using InstantWrite. I was able to get about 500mb on the DVD
until it stopped and said InstantWrite has detected some damaged sectors on the disc. Suggest backup and reformat(full format). So I reformated using InstantWrite. Was able to copy a few files but then said: Cannot copy test.tif: disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.

Next I tried to erase the disc in Easy CD Creator Basic 5.1(not knowing this wasn't the latest verstion). I got a buffer under-run error. Since then I have not been able to erase or read or anything.

I then changed from DMA mode to PIO Mode, updated firmware to 1.33, and bought new TDK DVD-R and FUJI DVD-RW. I first tried the DVD-R using InstantWrite, I was able to write files to the disc. But before I was able to write DVD-R files too. Although now 1 out the 3 discs I started to burn to is unreadable. When I insert it and double click on the drive it says please insert a disc.

I also tried the FUJI DVD-RW using InstantWrite in PIO mode. I got this error: An error occurred while formatting the medium. Later trying to copy said: Cannot copy test.tif: disk is write-protected. Trying to format through the menu says that there is no medium to format.

At this point I have given up on InstantWrite(or any packet writing app) then switched back to DMA mode and unistalled all burning software. Reinstalled Easy CD Creator with the latest patch to 5.3.5. I still could not erase the same FUJI DVD-RW - wouldn't even allow me to click start.

Uninstalled all burning software and installed Nero 6.0.0.15. Inserted a new FUJI DVD-RW. Changed to the DVD settings and choose the dataDVD. Added files. Output:
Quick FOrmat DVD
Burn Process Started
Session Fixation Error
Could not perform start of Disc-At-Once
Burn Process Failed at 1x

Now it says: Illegal disc. Please insert blank media.
Trying to erase the disc says:
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105: Illegal disc
Please insert a rewriteable disc.

I also tried a Simulated burn on a TDK DVD-R in Nero(couldn't on the DVD-RW) and it said it was succesful.

Does anyone know how to test a DVD-RW without ruining it. Is there still a way to erase those DVD-RW's and keep testing? Right now anytime I try something I just waste a DVD-RW.

The main problem is packet writing software.Direct cd and Instant write are going to cause problems on the same system with dvdrw.I wouldn't use either.Just create a normal data disc with Nero.Dump easy cd creator too.If you want to keep Instant copy, get rid of the Instant write module.Your dvdrw's are probably scrap now,try erasing them with Nero first to see.DMA should be enabled for the Pioneer.

I personally think anybody that installs Easy Cd/dvd creator should backup whatever they can and reformat their HD(seriously). Then never install Easy Cd Creator again.Start fresh without it,and don't install packet writing software.
