Seem to hear a lot on other forums about some A05/105 drives prefering DMA and others PIO mode. Just fitted my A05 in my system with firmware 1.21.

I run a dual boot of XP & W2K, when I booted into XP windows installed it under PIO mode and then when I booted into W2K it installed it under DMA mode.

Anybody got any thoughts on this issue?

Should be DMA.Some people can only achieve PIO.I think it is a chipset problem, normally problems with VIA.;)

OK thx guys! :)

I'll get to starting my first DVD burns when my damn discs finally arrive in the post. :(

if u use PIO u may get some weird burns with high speed media.
Burn speed jumps about and altho still readable, it can average at 2x when using 4x media.
Use ultra dma if available.

Had my 105 jump to pio mode for no apparant reason, though I may have installed some software which might have altered it, but not noticed at the time.
I unisnstalled the ide/atapi entry in 'devices' and then let XP re-build on the next restart - all came up fine. Maybe worth a try if you find you are stuck in pio mode.

I find if I install or swop around my devices i have had the jump back to PIO.
I just check the settings at regular intervals.
