Hi All im new

Can anyone here help me with my pioneer problem?
I have just got a new 108 and when i install it to my computer windows(xp pro)only recognises it as a standard cd rom in my computer but in device manager it recognises it as a proper 108.
Anyways my problem is it doesnt read any kind of disc dvd or normal cdr but when i tried it on my freinds pc it worked fine ive tried re-installing windows but that doesnt work any suggestions please?
:confused:

remind your drive is brand new and only supported by the lastest software versions; and don't mess up your system with more burning programs as you really need;

this is fully normal; you will never see it as DVD burner there;

but wont let me open any cd or dvd that i own. i think my win version is goosed or my motherboard wont accept it yet last time i re installed i booted up using the pioneer as the cd rom bloody strange.
this is a sure sign you have messed up Windows; see passage above;

my recommendation:
1. disable IMAPI: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=32137
2. uninstall Nero and all other burning software;
3. download and apply Ahead's Clean Pack: http://www.ahead.de/en/631938356417810.html
4. reinstall Nero, reboot;
5. update Nero to the latest free version: http://www.ahead.de/en/updates.html , reboot;
6. do a test burn with Nero's image recorder and attach the Nero log file here, so we can look for conflicting drivers; the Nero log file is called "NeroHistory.log" and is stored in the Nero program folder; when posting the file please delete out your Nero serial number;

and some details we need to know:
a) please tell us your hardware configuration, e.g.:
1. channel 80-wired cable, master: system HDD, slave: storage HDD (if present)
2. channel 40-wired cable, master: "Pioneer 108", slave: DVD-Rom (if present)
b) tell us which chipset your motherboard contains (e.g. VIA KT133 or NVIDIA nForce2) and what chipset drivers you have installed;

PC-GUY. I changed your post so the text is in the post it just easier to read.:)

Can you post your Nero log? Which is in your Nero folder called "NeroHistory.log", just leave out your serial. :)

analyses:

Nero version: O.K.

drive configuration: master @ second channel, O.K.

DMA: on, O.K.

present burning engines/drivers: "File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.02.62a, size=20016 bytes, created 28/10/2003 11:02:00 (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)", possible culprit: PXHELP20.SYS

motherboard chipset Intel 82845: possible culprit: IAA - Intel Application Accelerator
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

to do:

about removing PXHELP20.SYS: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?p=237390&highlight=*px uninstall*
after that apply Ahead's Clean Pack again, then reboot;

about IAA: Did you install Intel's IDE drivers named IAA (Intel Application Accelerator)?
if so, then uninstall IAA and use the M$ standard IDE drivers instead;

if your Pioneer is connected with a 80-wired IDE cable, it should be swapped for a 40-wired cable, because the ATAPI standard is still limited to 40-wired IDE cables;

ok uninstalled that PXHELP20.SYSdriver still wont work this is my current drivers
file attached is what my drivers look like so how do i remove IAA?

Mod edit: 450k BMP replaced by 23k PNG image... be kind to dialup users!
I'll have to do a quick guide to image attach, but basically, BMP is bloated, JPEG is really rough for text unless bloated, GIF or PNG work well

your pic looks O.K.; but more interesting would be the drivers bound at the IDE ATA/ATAPI-Controller;

so how do i remove IAA?
Start > Settings > Controll Panel > Add/Remove Programs: look for IAA - Intel Application Accelerator;
uninstall this software and reboot; then your OS searchs and installs M$' standard IDE drivers automatically; now reboot again;

i could not find that iaa file but i did go into bios and disabled pc ide bus master because it was set to enable.
this seems to have worked because now my computer loads up cd's and dvd's from my pioneer.
the only thing now is it doesnt recognise a blank dvd disk

thanks for this info; that might help other users too;

- apply Ahead's Clean Pack again, reboot;
- use compatible, quality media e.g. Ritek G04
- try burning again and post the new Nero log file here; :)

make sure in admin tools that imapi cd burning is set to automatic.

if imapi is turned of on my pc the writer dosen't say what size the dvd is.
that may be true (can't try it, don't use XP), but IMAPI sometimes hinders the software you use for burning; so in general it's better to disable IMAPI; :)
