Pioneer 107d only 4xspeed in Nero ?

Using the official 1.16 firmware from Pioneer. The drive is supposed to be able to burn at 8 speed but Nero will only report it as only being able to burn at 4 speed. Am I missing something or do I have a problem that's Nero specific?
Finally, how do I resolve this?

I apologise if this is covered elsewhere but I can't find any threads.

Running WinXP Pro - Bulkpaq 8Xspeed DVD-R.

Thanks in advance.

1st hi & welcome ;)
2)this could b be becoz of the quality of the media, this forum recommends of use of ritek dyed dvds 4 best result
3)pardon mi but is r ur dvds brand name bulkpaq or u bought dvds in a bulkpack? ;)i'm a bit confused
use progs like dvdidentifier or dvdinfo 2 get the info on the manufacturer of ur discs
hopes zat help ;)

If the media is 4x rated, then Nero simply reads that information off the blank dvdr and only allows 4x burning. Put in 8x media and it will then allow 6x and 8x as well.

If you want to burn 4x media above its rated out put, like 8x, then you need to get some hacked firmware. F/W 1.13 hacked allows up to 8x on all media, 12x rip speed and makes the drive region free. Get it from http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/ Just remember your pushing the specifications of the media way above its recomended limit so dont assume smooth sailing.

Thanks for the feedback. I normally buy reasonably priced dvd's and bulkpaq is the name of the manufacturer. Even with no dvd in the drive Nero reports 4xspeed. I haven't any 8 speed disks to try so will try the 8xspeed hacked version of firmware as suggested.

Thanks again

reasonably priced dvd's and bulkpaq
They may be reasonably priced but they are of very poor quality, what else do you expect ? I would not atempt burning any of those above their rated speed, I'd even go down speed with them. Bulkpaq dont make anything, they are just a merchant shipping stuff under their own name that they purchase form the lowest bidder and is generally B or C grade media. If you really want to burn 4x media at 8x, then you need VERY good media, try Ritek, Ridata or Traxdata branded media.

Ok, I get the message but reasonably priced doesn't mean the cheapest. I normally shop around and buy stuff I know works. 4xspeed bulkpaq works okay at 4xspeed and that's all I expect. Bulkpaq or any other make et al.
My original post was that the drive is being reported as only writing at 4 speed in Nero. Now I understand that when I buy 8xspeed disks or hack the firmware then it might show 8xSpeed in Nero? As it's an 8xSpeed drive I do hope so. Having said that the drive cost £55 OEM and if it only burns at 4XSpeed I wouldn't really worry. It's nice to burn quickly but I would rather burn slower and get a good disk than burn faster and end up with coasters.

Thanks to all for replies. :)

be WAREY of bulkpack when used for dvds when played back in X-BOX or PS2 consoles they tend to throw a fit and say theres no disk ... or start to play and then crash out with blocky messed up picture :(

not used myself but was lent one to test by a friend to see if it did the same in our PS2 & X-BOX and they play fine in my YAMADA standalone then again it plays just about anything :)

but show the above mentioned faults in a few standalones and consoles :(

Well guy's having updated my firmware to burn all blank disks at any speed I can confirm that the drive does indeed burn at 8xSpeed in Nero and have been able to burn every type of 4 speed disk I've tried so far at 6 speed without a problem and most at 8 speed as well. Only problem with burning a bulkpaq 4x at 8x was that the disk couldn't be read in other drives. Works okay in my drive though.

I take the point about burning cheap disks at faster speeds and to be truthful it's not my priority to be able to burn 4x at 8xSpeed albeit nice if it works.

Thanks for the input m8's I understand what is going on much better than before.
