Pioneer 105 won't erase dvd-rw

Hi, until a few weeks ago my Pioneer 105 was working fine. But, now - if I put a retail dvd in it, it doesn't give any info for the disc in MY COMPUTER. I can still decrypt from the drive and burn dvd-r and cd-r although again, with blank media it doesn't give any detail in MY COMPUTER. Here is my major problem tho.... I have several dvd-rw's that i have used and wish to erase but when I use Nero, it just says that the disc isn't rewritable. The drive won't even recognise a dvd-rw as being present. Can anyone please suggest a cure? I have tried removing the aspi layer and reinstalling it, other than that I can't think of anything to do short of reinstalling WinXP...!

What did you installed since this happens?
it seems like a competed burning engine, packet driver or filter driver swallows the disc informations;
go sure you don't have CloneCD's or Alcohol's "Hide Media" function activated;

you may also find that at some point in a DVDRW'S life it will become unusable due to over use maby this is the same in your case !?

you could also use dvdinfopro and try erasing with that :)
