Pinnacle InstantCopy PDI problem

Hi there,

I am new to DVD making, and I have successsfully managed to create a set of five PDI files using Pinnacle InstantCopy, and everythink went well till that part.
However the problem arose when I tried to convert the PDI files into a single ISO image, so that I could burn it straight to DVD.
The programs I have used cannot convert 5 PDI files into a single ISO image, because what I get are five ISO images when I want only one.
Is there anything I am doing wrong, or could I try something else.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

You could just burn it with Instant Copy, I can't help on merging the .pdi files
I tried that however for some reason I can't seem to see my DVD Burner in the destination box in InstantCopy, although I can see it in the source winow on the left of the screen.
Does anyone know what is going on?

Use PDITool to merge them all into 1 iso file...
Hi there,

Thanks for your help matey I've managed to crack it, by using a proggie called DVD Dycrypter, which has support for .PDI files. This just isn't enabled as a default.
Once enabled it can see and read these file types. It has also helps if the exteNsion for the files is the same, as I found that one of them had the I missing at the end, which is why no program could see it as a .PDI file.
Thanks for zip file too.

Hi Donn!

good that your problem is solved now, 1st question else would have been how are the files that came out are named :)

If your recorder doesnt show up as such in InstantCopy, try installing the Recorder update from Pinnacle available here.

But burning with DVDDecrypter works fine and i prefer it's GUI while burning, just provides more info!

Hi there,

Yes I'm pleased to say my problem has been solved, although all in all making my first DVD disc was an experience I won't forget very quickly.
As from the start, when I started trawling the forums for information and the small programs like DVD Decrypter, and many others, it took a good twelve hours of hard work.
This was because of the fact I'd never re-encoded and burned a DVD disc before. Although I'm pleased to say I have now cracked it.
I had trouble originally getting your Hidden Settings Editor to work, as I kept on getting an error 13. This I understand was because I was installing it on a fresh system that had never used the editor before. And what helped me was the small zip file made up in order to add the setting to the registery. I believe the newer version 138 solves this problem once and for all.
To answer your question fully, The files had the extension .PDI at the end with .PDI01, .PDI02 e.t.c. for every subsequent file. However for some reason whether it was the programs fault or mine, the second file had the I missing. And so because of this the programs that needed it could not see it. I personally think it was most likely to be due to something that I had done (user error).
However as soon as I remedied this problem everything slotted into place nicely and it was plain sailing from then on.
With the recorder not showing up in InstantCopy, that works fine as well now, because what I did was right click on the recorder in the source window and added it as a recorder in the destination window, as simple as that.
As for burning with DVDDecryter, the program originally could not see the .PDI files, and it was only when I read somewhere on the internet that you have to associate them with the program, that it finally worked. And after trying other programs that were not nearly as good as DVDDecrypter, I definately wanted it to work.

Hi Donn!

Nice to hear you have it figured it out now!
There are several programs that can convert pdi to iso, including Hidden Settings Editor, but they are all dependent on the correct naming of them, thouch IC.H.S.E. at least tells you if a file is missing :)

And yes, you've understood it correctly there was a bug in 1.3.7. with 'virgin' systems, thats history in 1.3.8

When using DVDDecrypter 3.1.6.0 its not necessary to associate pdi files, you could have also simply in ISO->Write mode have opened it, the open dialog offers the .pdi type! But association is the easier way since offering double click support!

and believe me 12 hours is pretty good :)

But if you still should run into any trouble, you've come to the right place to ask :D

Have Fun
