Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD..... HELPPPP.....:-s

Hi all, here's hoping someone can/will baby walk me through this nightmare I'm having!
I've bought and installed a TDK DVDRW 040N DVD writer, my system is a Pentium 4 2Ghz windows XP, the writing software I've got is "Pinnacle instant cd/dvd 7.0se istant copy-expression"
The problem I have is when I follow the step to create a DVD from video files in my documents (700mb .avi file) I can import it no probs but when I go to stage 2 and try to preview it I can't play it?! If I use the sample video the the software installs then I can preview that. I've tried about 6 different video files so far! Am I doing something very basic wrong?
I will be extremely grateful for any help!!!
Also I've downloaded and installed the expression upgrade to version 2.2.1

Please help, I've wasted 3 days trying!! :-s

Yes, I can play the files in Windows Media Player...... no probs at all there.

I'm obviously new to the forums and should have said "Hi" earlier, sorry!

Hi again!
I've just tried "Gspot" on all my avi files and everything comes out ok, it says that I have 3 suitable codecs installed to play the files and when I "render" the files, everything is good to go..........
Anymore suggestions....... please!?
