Pinnacle 8 problem

Using Pinnacle 8, when I try to narate an mpeg that I made using a microphone. The microphone works fine untill I click record,
Once I click record and it counts down 3 2 1 when it starts to record the microphone goes dead and no sound will come out of the speakers.

Anyone have an idea what the problem is?? :confused:
