Philips 711 dvd player help

i went to vcdhelp.com, and it said that my player cant play PAL vcds and such because it doesnt have a converter or something?

i have a lot of PAL vcds, and i would like to play them, instead of using TPMGENC everytime to convert...takes a long time.

everytime i try and watch a PAL vcd, it always goes up and down like the tracking is wrong on a vhs and it's black and white...

PLEASE HELP!!!

Your can switch the NTSC/PAL setting of the DVD player.
1. Unplug the DVD player from the mains
2. Press and hold 'stop' and 'next chapter >>| ' on the front of the DVD player. While holding these buttons plug in the mains.
3. After PAL or NTSC appeaers on the display panel of the DVD player release the buttons at the same time. The PAL or NTSC that appears on the display panel indicates the current setting.
4. To change the settings, press >>| within three seconds. The new settings will appear on the display panel.

mains? what is that???

ok, so i hold stop and next chapter on the dvd player??

and what if i want to set it back to ntsc??

i live in america, so yea...help!

mains=what? lol...and am i getting the steps correct? i dont want to lock up my dvd player

4. To change the settings, press >>| within three seconds. The new settings will appear on the display panel

i dont get this part...what is step four for??? you mean to set it back to the normal state? as in pal to ntsc or vice versa?

thanks

Step 3 tells u what setting you have at the moment ie ntsc.
Step 4 changes it.
To PAL if u have ntsc displayed and to ntsc if u have PAL displayed.

is this for my player though? a philips 711?

i searched on vcdhelp.com and no sign of anyone knowing this hack...
I use a Philips DVD 711 and it plays both PAL and NTSC vcd's without doing all this handling :)
I just put my vcd in and it reads it. It's set automatically for Pal or Ntsc. Nothing to do at all... And the main TV screen displays the vcd type (pal or ntsc) before playing it.

@jazzman
It is your TV that is allowing you to play NTSC and PAL movies correctly.
You have a multisystem tv that detects the colour output and adjusts accordingly.
aiumregisterd must only have a NTSC display TV which means Pal is displayed as black and white.
If he had a pal only tv and tried to play ntsc, that would be in black and white also.
If, as I suspect iamuns dvdplayer can only output ntsc (although it can play pal) it is a tv upgrade that is required.
If u have another tv or you can take your player to a friends house, you should try it there.
Most modern tvs should display both.
NTSC is known as RGB also.
Pal is also known as CVBS.

oh ok! ill try on my other tvs around the house...

i cant play pal vcds....they're in black and white, AND it scrolls up and down...so yeah, thats the problem...
