permanet subs vs svcd subs

As a newbie, I have excellent results so far using CCE and TMpgEnc in doing dvdrips. I even had success making english subs until a recent foreign dvd.

I normally decrypt the dvd first to watch the movie before encoding. Next, dvd ripping is deactivated and the encoding begins: some of the permanent english subs in the 3rd disc have disappeared and are rolling in conjunction with the closing credits which is really strange. Also, I had selected SVCD subtitles as another option but nothing shows up in my svcd sample. The audio and pic is in sync and everything but there are no subs.

Taking one step further, I extracted the individual chapters where the missing subs were and the permanent subs show up fine in the svcd sample. Why is it that when encoding the whole dvd with permanent subs; it then fails?

One final question, has anyone had success when choosing svcd subs? It appears that permanent subs only works for me most of the time.

Thanks for any help.

Permanent subs seem to be what works for most people only. SVCD subs work in not may DVD Players, so everyone reverts to permanent ones.

As for dissapearing subs, sorry I have no answer for you but this is a common problem. I have not been able to solve it as I dont play with subs very often. I'm sure there are other members who can help you.

missing chapter

When ripped to the hard drive, it's 25 chapters but dvd software reads it as 26 chapters.

I had only played the last VOB file and it's 26 chapters then skips automatically to all the advertising stuff. All the advertising stuff is in the last VOB file.

Could this be the confusion, during normal DVD playback, the advertising plays first but is located in the last VOB file. All the unnecessary stuff is cut out but confuses where the subs are and disappears and comes back again at the end of the movie where it shouldn't be.

Another strange thing is that DVD1svcd reports an unspecified language even though english is ticked off and is in sync in the 1st and 2nd disk but not in disk 3.
