Hello all hope everything is good with u

I am trying to work out if a PCI IDE CONTROLLER is what i need?

I have 2x hd,2 x cd-writers but i also want to add a DVD drive is my only option a PIC IDE CONTROLLER this would i presume give me another 2 controllers allowing upto another 4 devices?then comes the problem of a new power supply as i only have 300watt at the moment. anyone got any good cheap uk sites where i can purchase the IDE Controller??

does anyone use one of these animals at the moment???

another thing in by mobo bios there is a pic to ide controller option and currently it's disabled is there any benifits in enabling this????or is it something i enable when using the fore-mentioned ide card???

Apart from the motherboard controler I would thorougly reccomend updating your power supply to a 450 watts one if you intend to use all these components together.

flyby2001 dAT right bro, look out for abit, gigabyte or Promise controllers.
De ata 133 range are very good ok for your rom drives bro.:)
Look on overclockers.co.uk for psu..In some case's plug plug you can buy a case wit a very good psu inside it cheaper den buy de psu on its own.If you have any computer shows yourside check dem out :)

I have a Promise (Powercolor) ATA66.

I tried to use it in a Triton HX motherboard, without much success - though I later found that Win9x does NOT like mass storage controllers (IDE or SCSI) to share IRQ's (and it did!).

After that great advert, I doubt you'd want to make me an offer :)

PS. IDE drives on this tyope of controller are often seen as SCSI devices by software - this confuses the hell out of some CD-R applications!!!!

cheers guys

Thanx for all your input after long consideration i think i might just leave my config how it stands...the tought that now i have 1800xp and 512mb ddr = fast dvd rip has been outweighed by the hassel of setting my system up with one of these cards...my option now is to remove either 40x plexwriter or 40x lite-on hummmmmmm difficult one???????? what do you say guys

Cheers

Hmmmmm....difficult choice. What do you burn the most?
Games and game protections...the Lite-On no doubt.
Music and music copy protections...the Plex has the edge. The main advantage of Plex has always been PlexTools which rocks! If I could only fool my Plextools into thinking my Lite-On 401248 was a Plex 401240, all would be right with the world. Currently it only works with my Plex 8432.

If you have the case space...why remove it?! Just leave it there (preferably one on top of the the other) and change cables and power when you need one or the other. WinXP, ME, 98SE should not cause you any problems.

well a simple idea that has sorted me out i had not thought of this one.....i think i'll go with this and just leave the screws out of 1 side of my case and swap the drives when and as i need them...cool cheers dxkim
