PCI Grafic Card

I´m running an old slow 400 Mhz IBM with built-in Grafic card 4mb RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2x.

So much does i know that i don´t have any free AGP slots but i still have PCI slots free.

Now i wonder what card shall i buy to make it fit to my machine.
Something to think on just than buy an card for PCI.

To mention....this old machine is still doing it´s job perfect after almost 4 years.....copying games and music :D

Hey Copycat...

When you say the Rage Pro is built in...you have NO AGP slot on your mobo?

The reason I ask...is a lot of Mobo manufacturers still give you the slot with built in AGP solutions. You just turn them off in the BIOS and use the AGP slot.

Regardless, there are solutions for PCI video. Nvidia and ATI both have solutions. Sadly they are rather bandwidth limited due to the 33mhz PCI bus as compared to the 66mhz AGP bus. Not only that, but the bandwidth of 2x AGP vid card is 133mhz...while the bandwidth of a PCI vid card is still 33mhz.

Again you will need a BIOS option to turn off the onboard AGP. It may be a setting or a jumper. Consult your mobo manual.

i just got a jetway 32 meg pci graphics card for my other older puter its based on an NVIDIA TNT chipset and its a great card cost me bout £35 uk pounds and it plays all the current games i have no probs even GTA 3 so i can recommend it ;)

sure tis not the best but its NVIDIA based chipset makes the grade for most games ;)

Try Americas Army - that won't go with anything less than a Geforce, as it needs hardware T&L.
The Geforce 2MX can also be found in PCI - and is a fair compromise, though the 64 bit memory bus of the MX200 models is a perfomance drain compared to the 128 bit bus of the original MX and MX400 - the same crippling is applied to the TNT2 M64 - an older "straight" TNT2 has better memory performance.
