Can anyone tell me why when I updated PC cillin 2000 it caused my pc to lock, not boot properly and not shutdown properly? I disabled all PC cillin programmes in start up and its fine. If I start PC cillin from task bar its ok??? any ideas.

It may be a bad modules or definitions update. It has happened with several AV programs.
Try to remove and reinstall PC-Cillin, and see if it gets any better.
