password problem

hi all

has anybody got any ideas on this

a friend has a toshiba equim desktop pc and it has now decided it wants a password before it will boot
will not let you into setup

password is unknown ie its not any of the user /admin passwords

i assume the password is in bios
have taken out cmos battery no luck
so im just wondering if theres an administrator key sequence

ie hold this key & that key etc to overcome this or a jumper to close

any help would be appreciated
regards tonto

If it is indeed a setup password, clearing the cmos should get rid it. Either use the c-mos clear jumper or leave the battery out of the board long enough for any static information to clear out.

re password

hmmmm

tried that even put multimeter accross battery connections till it read o.oovolts then left for an hour refit reboot & guess what it still wants a password ?????
i read that it might revert to default pwords tried that no joy

any other ideas
(thanks to newby)

regards tonto

Have you tried CMOS password viewing/resetting utilities???

You can either use the exe given there or the parallel loopback technique described in the page. Please note that you will be using this entirely at your own risk!!! So be careful while using this.
