Palomino / Thoroughbred

for now it is the shrink in die size (down to .13).
This allows for higher clock speeds & lower temperatures. They will be implementing more cache & other things in the ones to follow.

PS
both intel & amd have announced their work on the .09 die size, so I would expect those out sometime next year.

yup.
Palomino is the AthlonXP (well so is the tbred lol), though I would suspect it is more brown (haven't heard of an orange one, only brown & green)

ISTR that the Tbred is indeed nothing more than a straight core shrink.

This makes heatsink contact even more critical - what a way to design a CPU!

Interesting - and a couple of the links have some beutiful horror stories - not for people with no stomach for tragic hardware abuse!

yes, that's why the next models will have a bigger die again, cause helps in reducing heat (heat dissipation) 'cause of the larger mass (though the core will probably shrink.

There are many idiots who put together PCs out there who don't know what they're doing (a few come to mind already). So they are the ones who always mess up.
It will be interesting when AMD puts 2 cores on their chip (that's in the works for next year).

Shadoe, I umm... cracked a core once, went for an ugly fan, skimped on the euros... and, welll.. deserved what I got, clipped in one side to socket, then pushed heatsink down to clip other side, I cracked a corner badly.. the tingle of blood to the ears as I realised what I'd done.. was a Tbird, now with my 2000+ XP, no probs, took my time, relaxed a bit after returning from shop... :) :) :)

Saw pictures of ' Clawhammer ' ?? the die looks like Pentium 4's, kinda bronze in colour, is this the move, towards an idiot proof install?

>>X<<

hahaha, possibly Strahlen.
I've had no problems with all the ones I installed, but party it is their fault for not really informing everyone how to do it properly.
They do have a downloads (pdf files) of manuals for this, but they aren't well advertised.
Glad you had no probs with your new one.
The Clawhammer pics are just 'cause they don't want people to see exactly what is under the cap, but I am sure it will change by the time they get done.
In my opinion, it is smart for any company to show off everything before the curtain goes up (otherwise it just allows the other competitors to counter).
I don't care who comes out with a better product though. As long as they do & make it a good price.

Okayz.
I might have pushed too hard on the HSF...
But my CPU is working. Phew!!!
So, core must be intact. Am i right??
To see if there's a crack, i'll have to remove the HSF. But i won't be able to use the HSF again. So, i'll wait for the arctic silver...
