Palomino or Thoroughbred

I'm about to upgrade my CPU the most my mobo can take is
either an AMD Athlon XP CPU, 0.18 micron process Palomino up to 2100+ or 0.13 micron process Thoroughbred up to 2000+.
the question is what one would be the best one to go for?
cost difference isn't worth worrying about
The thing that I don't understand is the 0.13 or 0.18 micron thing
would the smaller die size be better (better=faster) or just go
for the speed rating eg.2100+ rather than 2000+

Any replies will be appreciated

Thanks

In my experience everytime that the micron size is reduced the processors have a speed increment even if they are rated at the same speed.

Smaller die size heat less and have shorter connections.

the Thoroughbred is supposed to be more performant than the palomino core
for more details u can go and have a look at tomshardware ;)

Surprised it's restricted to a slower T-Bred than Palomino - that doesn't sound right.

The T-Bred is probably a much better proposition for cooling, as it should certainly put out less heat than the Palomino core at a similar speed.

The main reason for having a T-Bred, is that some 333 capable motherboards can unlock them automatically, allowing the immediate choice of raising the FSB from 266 to 333 (for ones that are not 333 already) and balancing it with a multiplier reduction.

Can't remember which ones do this trick, or if it's limited to certain makes only or certain chipsets only.

Made me double check but this is what it said on the mobo web site
"Support AMD Athlon XP CPU, 0.18 micron process Palomino up to 2100+ and 0.13 micron process Thoroughbred up to 2000+"

just updated the BIOS last week so it could take a faster CPU
could only take 1800+xp until update
Think I might go for the 2100+ just to push it over the 1.7GHz only running 1.2 Athlon at the moment If your thinking it isn't worth upgrading only 500GHz it's really a dual upgrade as my son's computer will get my 1.2 Athlon he's only running 800 Duron

Thanks again
