PAL to NSTC?

Hi,

I bought a PAL DVD which I cannot play as we use NSTC where I live.

The DVD is copy protected.

Can I copy this DVD directly into NSTC format using a prog such as Alcohol?

Or do I need to rip the Video and audio tracks first, then convert to NSTC, recode and then finaly burn onto a new DVD? (Which would probably end up looking quite terible)

I also have the same problem with some Playstation 2 software I bough, it is in PAL but needs to be converted to NSTC.

Kind regards

No.

Basically. You can convert to NTSC as you re-encode though. Quality should be ok.

It should play in your PC & many standalones will play both <> I presume yours dosent (best solution is to get one that does)

Can I Copy
No so the answer to the encode question is yes.

Not into gaming but I believe U can sort it out on the PS2 quite easily.

I think I have found the answer..and if this is the only way I will buy a dvd player that supports both PAL and NTSC

converting between video standards isn't fun.

if you're planning on buying a new dvd player, keep in mind that both your dvd player and tv have to support the standard(s) you want to view, so make sure your tv is capable as well.

Aaaaaggggh  Ok - in that case back to trying the conversion thing - I will post my results in about - mmmmm - 4 weeks? :)

As the guy said all your hardware must suport both formats..But you shouldnt be worryd about converting from pal to ntsc..You must have a bad experience concerning vcr tapes(like me with all those bllurru picture and bad watery color(..but this is a total different thing..You got a good source now(dvd(so it should be ok)). :)

i would say that most modern and bought recently tv sets will be able to cope with both NTSC and PAL formats when used with SCART/PERTIAL cables that will switch the AV/video signal automatically when selected on the DVD player settings :)
