pal svcd to ntsc dvd problem chicken man help!

How are you converting the svcd to dvdr ? Are you de-interlacing at any piont?

I'm not going to ask WHY you need to convert PAl to NTSC, I fail to undersatnd why people need do this.

tried the pal to ntsc its like trying to HAMMER A SQUARE PEG INTO A ROUND HOLE it really dont go smoothly :( its quicker to just convert and burn as is so long as its a compliant mpeg then there is no worries about the end product it will playback fine :) and if it don 't for some unknown reason 98% of dvd players support PAL/NTSC switching espesh if its multi regional :)

I would imagine that the UK is somewhat like here though where most equipment can handle NTSC just fine despite PAL being the standard.

The US on the otherhand (as I understand it) being the US most equipment handles only NTSC.

Still you can't expect too much from a country that drives on the wrong side of the road.

I always thought the Auzzies drove upside down, since they live down under... heh, heh..

My Apex and Daewoo players have P/N switch, and with a firmware change support the Daewoo will transcode the NTSC to PAL or vise-versa (The Apex does it natively). Many other players in the US also have P/N functionality. Personally, I don't try to convert, just make a PAL disc region free and reburn it (like the Allo Allo series from amazon.co.uk I picked up). Let my player convert it for me, and avoid the jerkiness of transcoding.

I guess if I really need to change something from PAL to NTSC, I will just play it in my Apex, set the output to NTSC, stream it through my Sony DV camcorder via Firewire to my PC with Scenalizer, and then convert the AVI to MPEG2 and use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the MPEG into VOBs with menus and such.

Actually someone screwed up.. The world is actually the other way around and we are on top; we just keep quiet about it because it helps bring in the tourist $$$'s.

I'm a little confused here guys... I live in the US and have owned 4 different standalone DVD players. None of them have been able to handle PAL (or maybe they send out PAL signals that my TV can't handle). In any case, the resultant discs are unusable to me. So I frequently need to transcode from PAL to NTSC.

Am I thinking wrong here?

if yout players are FIXED N.T.S.C. then you will only be able to play that region specific disk if you hack them with remote hacks or other to make them multi regional you will not have this problem and the signal will be transferred to your tv set if you have a modern T.V. thats uses SCART (Peritel SCART connector) cables then this should change the T.V. signal to the required hz for that region 50Hz PAL and 60hz N.T.S.C. :) Peritel SCART Connectors resolve a lot of video issues when it comes to pal /ntsc as these carry the AV force signal that shifts the picture to the correct hz :)

OK and thanks. I had just misread things and thought that you guys were saying that I didn't need to transcode from PAL to watch this stuff. It takes a long time and I was hoping to find a way around it.

Once more, SOME players in the US (where I too live) CAN handle PAL. Every Apex I have owned - 700, 1700, 1100, and 3201 - all have on the remote a "P/N" button. When pressed, it forces the output to Pal or Ntsc (hence the "P" and "N"). This means that a REGION-FREE PAL will play on an NTSC TV in the USA. I do it all the time. The Daewoo 5800 and 5900 that I have ALSO do the same. RCE checking and Region checking must BOTH be disabled for many discs to play properly, but PAL can be played on many DVD players available in the US. You just need to do your homework to buy the right one. I did and have absolutely no problem, and do NOT transcode PAL to watch on NTSC TVs.

just kick me if im in wrong place

Im all over place here trying to see where to post but i think ive got enough questions to put 1 in every post:p anyway here goes .....i got a new video camera in US last year and although its same tapes as old 1 i had i cant view any of the old tapes (and no i havent kept my old camera) do i need to get them converted and if i do how ?

Liz, what kind of camera do you have now? 8mm? Was your old camera bought in the UK (PAL system) - if so, the new one bought in the US last year is probably NTSC system, which is not compatible with UK / European PAL system tapes and vise-versa. You would need someone with either a multi-system 8mm (very expensive if you can find one), or a PAL 8mm VCR or Camera to play back to convert to NTSC to play in the new US NTSC camera.

Or you could find someone with a PC capture card (in the US the Dazzle PCI card) that can record from either PAL or NTSC, and copy to your PC, make into DVDs.
