OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

The "new" things are the following:
* Many bugs fixed
* Existing single-user installation update capability
* Integrated Bitstream Vera fonts
* Built-in proofing tools and hyphenation for many languages
* Better Microsoft Office filters

Perhaps this will end up being the final?

That is actually the esscence of a "Release Candidate" - if no problems are found when it's been kicked around for a while, then it WILL be final - the RC stage is not the time to be introducing anything other than bugfixes and general tidying up.

From what we're seeing, looks like Nero 6 could have done with some time in "official" RC stage (and not just leaked betas).
