I started by answering to an older thread so I will start my own. I am new to the world of computing and have a simple ? How the heck does one compress audio of about 1600min to fit the cd-rw of 80min? Sad, I know but would really appreciate the help. Other than that, Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what is the audio format !? wav ?!

then compress to mp3 with many many audio tools out there search google for "mp3 tools" no quotes

if you want it as an audio track that will play in any cd player then you will have to reduce the wav bitrate this will drop the quality quite a lot though

get more reduction by using mono or mixed mono conversion

im sure other audio gurus here can add more to this

in practically mp3 bitrate you can fit aroun 500 min at one CD-RW, but this doesn't sound audiophile anymore;
with much lower quality you can store more play time, but i wouldn't like to hear this product then;

Thank you to all. The particluar file is mp3 format. Is there a tool out there that allows a splicing of audio so that it might fit on several CD-RW?
Plus are there any recommends for DVD-R drives? I would like to start on the movie part of my little adventure. Got a lil bro in Antartica who would love something to watch and listen to. Thanks again.

For .m3 splitting, Duracell's recommendation is top notch. I use it all the time. Freeware.

For multi-format encoding/decoding, Speek's Multi Encoder Frontend link. Also freeware.

As for DVD-/+R drives, do a search on the Forum for opinions on which one. There are quite a few excellent threads, that will help you in your quest. The most popular seem to be LiteOn and/or Pioneer.
