"If a product is good, the release version will speak for itself. If it isn't, all the pre-release discussion is a waste of my bandwidth and since that isn't free, I won't have it."

I followed the thread being referred to at doom at the time, and watched as it 'went south', and I understand Doom9's rules. I still don't know if discussion there is permitted. Discussion there would be helpful to not just me but many.

The product IS good and it does speak for itself. It's no longer 'prerelease'. I'm not worried about asking the same question at doom9 but I thought I'd first toss it out here to see if those of you that were there could shed some light.

Many products discussed at doom9 are not free, I want other peoples ideas and help on all my DVD questions. This is a very good forum and very helpful, full of good people, but at this time it is restricting.

I can see where Doom9 may of felt taken advantage of, but are there no ways to clear the air'.

I don't wish to offend anyone and wish all well. I help when I can and seek advise when needed, maybe I just need ....more time off work.

DS=DVD your way

First of all, let me say that I banned myself from Doom9 (deleted my Doom9 cookies), as I got tired of the general "Big Brother" conditions there.
Secondly, Doom9 is an invaluable and vast place for knowledge, but
DS was taken the wrong way from the start. Ok, maybe it started on the wrong foot, but although people keep appearing with requests for an 'unknown' program that does what DS does, none of the big heads there offer any advice. Instead, free manual ways are suggested. DS is completely ignored, except when mentioned in cases that cannot be done otherwise. And if someone suggests the obvious solution, here's what they think:
"....Also, some people are very good at jumping in on random threads and trying to move them in a direction where they can tool about their "amazing upcoming tool or features for something existing"
So, in conclusion, can DS be discussed there? Yes and no.
Oficially, yes, within the rules of the place. I have friends that got banned for that reason.
On the other hand, the ex-sticky of DS is going South, and hopefully that proves that there is still hope for unbiased help.
Unoficially, IMHO they'll keep their eye on you. ;)
Have fun. I didn't.

P.S.
I had no idea what Matroska was. After a small Google-search, I found that it was hyper-ware, and is in almost not-operating condition since early 2003. (If I am not mistaken)
So, to compare DS with it, which is in it's second stable version and going strong, is incomprehensible, to say the least.
BTW, I had no idea what was going on there, until a friend called me wondering what had happened :)

Doom9 is indeed a valuable source for information, but since they are experts, they scare newbies away by showing a superior attitude.....IMHO,MX is treaten very hostile there....you can try to discuss DS at their place, but it won't be easy...

Yep, without wanting to blow our own trumpet too loudly the above things that go on at several DVD forums are the reasons why DVDRbase is growing at a much faster rate than any other similar forum on the web. Fact. Everyone here is friendly, that's the way it always has been and that's the way it always will be. :)

Having good knowledge of a subject should not be a license to look down upon newbies or treat others in a self righteous manner. After all there is *always* someone that knows more than you anyway so what's there to be so smug about even if you are a smart a$$? :p :D

So thanks to you the members for making and keeping this forum what many others are sadly not, friendly! :)

Thanks to all for the input/insight. I hope things lighten up at Doom9 so non-experts like myself wishing to learn as well as share don't feel we have to 'walk on tiptoes' in order to post. It is very 'comfortable' here and I do want to say Thanks to all here at DVDRbase.........

And that's the way we like it. The day we start acting like arrogant know-it-all's, is the day I will pack my bags and exit stage left! In fact, that was the reason I came to this community and stayed... it is friendly place, where everyone shares knowledge to the best of their ability.

We try not to forget that every one of us was a Noobe at one time. And that is important... it humbles you. ;)

Actually most of us are still noobs <> me Im an "expert" Noob & proud of it <> no one will get flamed or laughed at here <> there are no dumb questions just Dumb answers.

OK sometimes when someone asks the same question for the umpteenth time they may be pointed at the tutes <> thats what they are there for after all.

the door will be blocked cos I'll be going through it first.

That said there are on THIS Forum plenty of really knowledgable peeps who give their time & advice freely & they persevere when peeps dont get it right & continue giving advice untill they do.

As for the cr*p on Doom re DVD Stripper the word "Jealous" springs to mind.
OK the smart arses on there can use IFO edit & mess with DVD's (& feel superior)well thanks to MackemX & TMG so can dumbo's like me & I am glad about that.

no comment, as I've just said all I wanted to say at Doom9 in this thread about an hour ago and I doubt things will change anyway

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68972

that's how I feel about this unfortunate situation and then I see this thread. I know others feel it's a very thin wire to tread but rules are rules :(

I guess you have to respect the forum rules on a board no matter if you agree/disagree if you want to post there

but let's not start a this forum is better than that forum etc ;)

I thought this place was friendly?:( I for one has helped MackemX alot with beta-testing DVD Stripper prior to release. Yes, I am the same 2COOL @ Doom9 that uses IfoEdit. I guess what got to me with this quote is the "smart arses" comment. So I use IfoEdit alot but that shouldn't make me a look like a bad guy. Anyways, I'm trying to be neutral here as I am on both sides of the fence.

@MackemX

Did you get a chance to tell TMG about my DVD Stripper problem? It's been awhile.

The last thing I want is fighting between forums(any forums).

We are all trying to provide help for our members. What's done is done. They have their rules, and we have ours.Too bad things went the way they did for DVDStripper over there. We stand solidly behind the DVDStripper team here.Hopefully we can all move on.

Indeed I agree, and I apologise for my outburst, but it seems that what I had said, many had thought...
Anyway, I wish that anything similar to the closing post in that above mentioned thread is NEVER seen here. And by the looks of things, it never will :)
Thank you all once again for your hospitality.

No need for anybody to apologize. ;) I have not followed closely what has transpired at Doom9.I do know that MackemX was a very helpful member there.I also understand his enthusiasm about a great new tool.

I also understand the reason for the original question in this thread.DVDStripper seems to be a "dirty" word over there.

Oh well,onwards we go.

@2COOL, yeah I've been onto TMG last week and the new version should work for people who have had registration issues previously

sorry about the delay mate :(

p.s. I would take 'smart ass' as a compliment as I was one of those, so the 'dumb asses' can call me anything they want as long as they acknowledge my superior knowledge

MUWHAHAHAHA! you inferior Ifoeditphobiacs do not respect us IFOEdit Guru's enough so you will all be punished :D

@2cool Welcome to the forum & I hope U enjoy your visits

re "smart arse" this refers to peeps who flamed DVDstripper with comments on the lines that they could do it themselves etc <> this does not refer to all who can use IFO edit.

I have never seen so much hassle over a small piece of s/ware & the final post in the afore mentioned thread is just not cricket.

A forum is for discussion <> & I hope ours never has to make a post like that.
anyway lets move on:cool:

that's what I still find surprising and even more so that someone has to post on another forum to ask if it's OK to post about DVDStripper on a forum. I wonder if any other 'commercial' tool would raise an issue if you used that tools name instead :( and jippiejajee's post got me thinking also as I wonder how many more think that?

maybe I'm just paranoid

oh well, crap happens and as you say onwards we go

p.s. thanks for the PM's and emails with your support guys ;)
