Not sure about Codecs...

OKay guys... i've recently downloaded a few flicks netside and now i ain't sure wat codecs are needed...
I'm running Win2K and have got DivX v5.sumthing installed and just installed the so-called SMR-DivX Codec (Not yet rebooted), the films turn out at a reasonable running length but viewing is just all black and no sound... am i missing a codec or do i need to reboot ?!:confused:

no need to reboot.
Grab Gspot somewhere off the net and check the file info to see what codecs are required.

For myself I have DivX 5.02 then install DivX 3.11a after, and for audio you might also need to install ACM, AC3, OGG or other types of audio codecs.

Gspot and a few others should let you know though what is required. You should also be able to tell with virtual/nandub (file info).

Hrmm... that's great... much help... thnx guyz... but i still gotta fix this empty ~58min blank screen, with no sound... i'll find and install every codec known to man... :D

Probably your file is messed up......
I have 1 that plays sound,no picture and it's codec isn't recognised by Gspot or Nandub,I assume that it's not complete....I have Xvid,divx 3.11,4.02 and 5.02 installed...
AviPreview loads the file and plays the part that I have....:D
