Norcent RW521 THat Burns at 24x, Why?

I just installed the RW521 and it burns at the same speed as my Lite-on (LTR-24102b). I'm using Imation (48x). If I don't let the program pick the speed the test will error. I'm doing on the fly copy of just program exe's a backup disc. All my IDES are set as Ultra DMA Mode 2.

All I did was switch the liteon for the Norcent, so which is junk the Norcent the imations?
Is ther something I'm missing?
Thanks

its not the imatations....I use them and find them to be one of the better qualities...I have a Yamaha 44x24x44 and I burn the imatations at the max speed. (44x)

I just burned (Simulated) an image using Alcohol 120% and the Average speed was 33.0X.
So whats up with this?

I have burned over 2000 CD's over the years. I save old, bad and free promotional CD's for my art work. Unfortunately I have over 200 imation CD's that went bad. At first I thought I might just have a bad 50 pack. For I did have 50 to a 100 already burned with only a few errors. The store I purchase them from exchange them. I notice that some would not play on any of my CD players. When some would. So I switch to an other brand and didn't think much about it. Until 6 months later, The ones that worked fine. Start loosing there silver backing. I lost all the data I had on them. I quickly backed up all my imation CD's. In all 89 out of 200 CD's lost there silver backing. These were from different 50 packs bought at different times. I myself will never use imation again.

I recently bought a 100 spindle of Imation (CMC) media from Staples.Wish I knew they were CMC before buying them. They were rated at 48X,but could not even write at 24X on 2 of my burners.Kept getting coasters. So,yes, I'm pretty sure it's the media.

Oh..and "on the fly" is not a good idea. You may create coasters even with good media.

The source speed for "on the fly" is probably being taken into consideration. - even if a CAV/PCAV read would actually keep track with a faster writer, it probably takes the starting speed of the read as the limit.

Definitely NOT recommended in any system, modern or not. Slave devices w/o a master one either malfunction, or don't work at all.

Wow my pc has changed since this post. Whole new pc.

Master DVD-RW DD0401
Slave LTR-52327S
If you read my other posts Norshit is garbage. I used the same media on the liteon and it burned at 52x with out a problem and played in everything. I will never by another norcrap product again why when liteon makes the best CD-RW. It's just not worth it!!!! That just my 2 cents.

I had a Norcent ( Badged Liteon ) DVD+R drive, and it worked very well. The only thing is, that i had to burn at 2.4x because at 4x, the disc would occasionally skip. It was only a month old, and sold it to a friend and I ended up with the NEC 1300A. Hopefully that Norcent will hold up for him.
