Noob question

Ok a client at work has just bought a DVD burner off us and Im affaid Im not really up on them. I think from memory he got an A05.

My question is he wants to back up a copy of Star Gate the series onto DVDR.

Can anyone help me with the following?

What software should I recommend to do this?
What is the best way to copy the series over?

Any help would be great as I have never used a DVD-R before and am currently looking into getting one.

Well the easiest way is to use either Pinnacle Instant Copy, DVD Shrink or DVD2one. DVD Shrink has the bonus of being FREE too! It will also rip the movie for you.

Checkout the various tutorials at www.mrbass.org to give yourself a better idea of what exactly is involved with each prog.

HTH :)

While all of those programs are excellent suggestions, I think the easiest way to back these DVDs up would be with DVDXCopy. No fuss, no muss, just insert discs and copy.

I gave him a copy of DVDXCopy xpress 2.5.0 but the problem is because it is a heap of episodes on one DVD it won't pick them all up. In fact only the start credits come up on the DVD-R.

Is there a way to copy over the VOB files and then burn them to a DVD-R. I think he has a problem with NERO (the one that came with the DVD-R(RW) player. It won't allow him to put them straight on once they have been ripped.

The full version of DVD X Copy will do this for you, but alas on "2" DVDR's.

Try DVD Shrink as it's simple enough to use and will fit all the ep's on one disc, you can edit out any audio/subs etc you don't want first too. You just simply put all the finished files in a VIDEO_TS folder and copy it into your burning soft and burn as a data disc.

Most people seem to be using Stomp Record NowMAX! to burn DVD's and I for one would not use anything else, recent builds of Nero should be fine though with DVD burning.

Is this a DVD-5 or a DVD-9? If you don't understand this, put the DVD in your computer's DVD drive, right click the drive letter in "My Computer", and pick properties... how many bytes are used?

As I said mate its for a client at work so Im not to sure on the DVD he has.

Thanks for the help thou it has been taken on board with great learning!

I have heard that the final product with DVDXCopy is not that good is this true? What is the latest version of the program anyone?

DVDxcopy is good and all the backups I made with this are of excellent quality altough I only have done 1:1 copies so they should be perfect, I think 1.5 is the last version.

If you´re looking to fit the entire dvd into one disc then you should try using dvd shrink it has great features and if you don´t pass above level 3 with the compression the results are excellent.

Thanks for that you have all been a big help. Im in the middle of working out which DVD-R I want to go for so its been very helpful.
