No Sound

I've got a vcd of Lord of the Rings, but got hold of a divx dvd screener (Lord.Of.The.Rings.DivX-TPS) so have tried to convert this into svcd.
Following Chicken_Mans tutorial on the matter, using TMPGEnc-2.53.35.130-Plus-EN with DivX 4.12 Codec installed.

When starting ripping it gives a conversion time of around 48hrs!
( Normal svcd from original DVD takes about 6hrs )

Anyway I let it do it's stuff and after a length of time I get a 'Stream Writing Error' ( 30 odd hours )

At the moment I have an mpg movie of 3.99Gb, the visual quality is superb, but no sound.

Any ideas ?

i don't know the answer to that specific problem , but i beleive the reason it takes longer than usual is because it has to decode the mpeg4 (divx) and re-encode to (mpeg2) at the same time thats why it probably takes longer than dvd (mpeg2) to svcd (mpeg2).

I would load the DivX into VirtualDUB, in Audio set to Full processing Mode and then under File, hit Save WAV...

Then in TMPGEnc, use the DivX as Video source and the new WAV file as Audio source.

A DivX to SVCD is slow and as oxygen99 suggested, it has to decode the DivX first then encode to SVCD, a double take.

The "Stream Writing Error" can result from disk full (obviously), drive where Temp files are created is full or a HD in need of a good de-frag. The latter is a common problem.

Simple really wasn't it !

The temp file in the Enviromental settings was set to the windows temp.

Changed it to the temp folder on a seperate partition, solved.

Also remedied a problem in the Merge & Cut ( it was locking up ) by installing an MPEG codec.

Getting there !
