No audio on dvd player & PC Using AC3 Machine *plz plz help**

Hi guys

i have successfully converted a few movies using AVI2SVCD. All the original audio was MP3 and then encoded to mp2. I have converted that to ac3 using the ac3 machine. From the 3 movies that i did, there is no audio when i play it on my pc or on my dvd player. Hpwever the 3rd is fine. Anybody know what the problem lies? please help

thanks

Dave

You probably need an ac3 codec. You can download the sldcodec pack here.

i do have the ac3 codec installed already. and it works on my pc. i just get no sound after encoding and then also after authoring with TMPGenc.

I find AC3 Machine sometime gives an AC3 with volume so low that you think its not there. I have no idea why this happens sometimes

I have now changed to using either Sonic SoftEncode or the AC3Enc that comes with Sonic Scenarist. I also believe the same Sonic util comes with DVDit 2 as well. I tend to use AC3Enc thats with Scenarist and works everytime fantastic.

So which one would you recomend me to use?
the two movies audio actually works in my sony (other) dvd player. but they dont work , my other dvd player, and i have tried 3 other dvd players and also my pc. So i dont think it would be a low audio problem as that wont work in the sony dvd player too.

also one other thing, the audio icon in TMpegEnc dvd authoring is shaded when i load in a ac3 file. Therefore no audio cannot be played in TMPegEnc.
Is TMPEGenc not compatible with ac3 as yet?

Are you talking about TMPGenc or TMPGenc DVD Author, if the later, please use its correct name.

I tend to use AC3Enc thats with Scenarist and works everytime fantastic.
The Ac3 output from BeSweet (via AC3 Machine or BeSweet GUI) is not a fully AC3 compliant file and some DVD Players refuse to play it.

Its TMPGenc DVD Author that i use. One other thing i have noticed that the 'bbMPEG muxed file00' that is produced in AVI2SVCD also doeasnt have audio in when i check it on my pc. The original avil file plays fine though. I guess i could try using AC3Enc with Scenarist to see if that makes a difference or even stick with mp2!

TMPGenc and TMPGenc DVD Author are completely different programs, one encodes, one authors so in future please call it by it correct name, we are not mind readers. I think I have mentioned this before ?

The 'bbMPEG muxed file00.mpg' file produced from an AVI conversion will ALWAYS have an MP2 audio track regardless of what the original AVI started off with. MP2 codec is in-built into Windows so if you cant get any sound from it on playback then I suggest you have a problem with your Windows installation or some crap codec pack like Nimo etc that screws your system completely.

Does the Extracted_audio_1.mpa file play ? There should alse be an Encoded_audio_1.mp2.wav file as well, does that play fine and is full length ? For a 100min movie this wav file should be approx 1 gb in size.

yes the Extracted_audio_1.mpa file does play and i do have Encoded_audio_1.mp2.wav file too around 1gb in size. Whats the best codec to use? I guess this will sort my pc problem out but why some dvds refuse to play the audio.?

I currently have installed K Lite Codec Pack and also have AC3 Filter and even Divx Pro.

Thanks mate

I have just tried uninstalling K-Lite Codec Pack and i can get sound when i play the 'bbMPEG muxed file00.mpg' file which is really great! So i guess it was a codec problem.

Just going to make the dvd files again now using TMPGenc DVD Author and see if i can play that on my pc.

If you are going to convert to AC3, then convert from the mp3, not the mp2. Otherwise it is mp3-->mp2-->AC3 all of which are lossy formats.

Just tried again making the dvd files using TMPGenc DVD Author and theres no audio playing on my pc! damn! wish i knew whether the problem is!

The mpa is the mp2. You would need to I guess extract the mp3 from the AVI yourself, then I guess convert it to wav (or just do that whilst extracting) and encode that with SoftEncode or whatever.

Could also try some of the stereo to surround techniques out there if you don't have a prologic II or similar setup or possibly if you aren't that impressed with the results. Although I guess the M2V bitrate would have been setup for the space remaining after 224 mp2 or whatever so you would have to redo the video if you wanted full 5.1 audio.

Actually DVD2SVCD converts the extracted MP3 to WAV first (with Madplay), then converts that to MP2 (with BeSweet). This gves better results than MP3 to MP2 (with BeSweet).

I have found best results from converting the WAV to AC3 than any of the others. I also use either Sonic SoftEncode or AC3Enc that comes with Sonic Scenarist. And both of those will take inputs of WAV only anyway. BeSweet's AC3 output is not fully AC3 compliant and refuses to play on many DVD Players. The Sonic AC3 encoders does produce compliant files.

anychnace of a step by step guide to convert to ac3 using sonic ac3 plz? ive had a try but theres too many buttons/options and dont know which to select etc etc

thanks
