New PC with DVD burner. Windows XP and TIME factory fitted burner.
I tried to copy a dvd (first time go, as you do!) and it would have taken 20 hours to process! It's large spec PC so memory and speed are not an issue. The burner 16x. What's going on?

Hi PJW, Welcome to our forum! :cool:

there are no 16x DVD burners; ;)

about the 20 h, provide us some more details;
What dvd did you rip? What software(s) did you use? How long take the ripping process? How long take the recoding process? How long take the burning process?

Did you found our tutorials already? http://www.dvdrbase.com/forumdisplay.php?f=117

Newbi Headache

Duracell, thanks for coming back. Answers to your questions.
It's a NEC DVD_RW ND 1300A and I was trying to copy the film ZULU. The programme I was using was "Instant CD+DVD" which came with the PC pre loaded. It took 10 just to rip half the movie! (i assume the ripping stage is getting the files off the disc at the first stage?)
Cheers

The Best way ive found to copy a dvd is to use Laz's Totally Free Guide.

After i few goes at it you will master it mate.

Find it in the tutorials section in dvd burning discussion.

Hope this helps if not more people round here that know more about all this

you are right, thats called "ripping"; it shouldn't last more than 2 hours; seems you have a scratched/dirty DVD;

If you are using Laz's tutorial just omit the latter stage and burn with something else, Burnatonce will not work with your burner.
