Hi,
I am computer illiterate. I have been send a cd from friend in USA that I desparately want to view (audio and video). I have never had to view a CD before. Tried Windows Media Player but message said error reading codec. Did some reading on net (told you illiterate) and downloaded G Spot. When trying to read the cd it says
Stream Type And A/V Interface = Type Open DMLAVI (Sorry should have said cd has AVI file) IMRR = n.s.
I/L not supported
Video Codec
4cc = SP 44 Name= unknown
Stat Code = NOT installed
When I hit render button it says 0x00040257: VF_S_NOT_REndered. Cannot play back the video stream no suitable decompression could be found.

From what I have read I need to download the right codec file. IS that right???? How do I find it and install it.
By now you are all probably shaking your heads over my ignorance. Can anyone please help me asap. If so it needs to be really basic for me. I really need to view this CD. A big thank you in advance from New Zealand.
Jill

http://www.moviecodec.com/codecdownload/sp44.shtml - best reference I've found so far for it - oops! dead link for the download.

Still hunting, some leads to trace

- Identified elsewhere as "SunPlus AIPTEK Megacam CODEC" or -

Software shipped with a number of low end digital cameras and webcams such as Aiptek's Pocketcam digital still camera, Logitech's ClickSmart and Mustek's gSmart mini 2 use this format. These use SunPlus chipsets so presumably this explains the "SP".

Installing drivers for one of those may provide you with a suitable codec - it sounds like what you have is an unrecoded webcam video using the native codec of the webcam.

Thank you for replying but do I have to download each one and try separately. Oh and when downloading does it put it in right file?? I did warn you I was hopeless.
Thanks again

Just discovered I'd downloaded the 3.25 for the pencam - so I installed, but it want's a reboot, back after I've finished...

Couldn't see any extra codecs where I expected, but I later discover that SP54 is a DLL - not sure if it covers SP44 as well though.

Ask what they recorded it with - it's got to be a webcam, and with the name and model, it should be easy!

A final trackdown (I hope) - looks like the drivers for THIS include SP44
http://www.adstech.com/support/downloads/drivers/drivers.asp?category_id=2&product_id=USBAV-170&os=Windows&x=34&y=14

Download and install, and with luck, it'll play

Forum rules make it inappropriate for me to "RIP" just the required DLL and attach - not sure if it would be considered warez or not.

PS. Once able to play, if you have a writer, I'd suggest a look at the tutorials and try recoding it to a more usable format like VCD / SVCD or DIVX.

My initial guess at a webcam could be wrong - it may well be captured from video using a card such as this.

You guys are brilliant. Take a hug. It worked and I have just stopped crying after playing the CD (it was very emotional). Thanks everyone for helping. Merry Xmas to all.
Hug from Jill

Which one - as I was just on my way back to say that while the required file was definitely in there, I could find no evidence of it actually being made active - neither in Gspot's list, nor in another Directshow filter viewer.

The http://www.adstech.com/support/down... for DirectX. I just downloaded to my computer and ran the CD. It came up in Windows Media Player.
Thanks again. This stuff is all new to me. Hubby is computer expert but for reasons (not dirty) didnt want him to know about CD. HE will find out later.
Tell your other half you are wonderful and deserve a hug.
Merry Christmas Jill
