Hi everyone,

Lots of questions here.

I just got myself a Pionerr 107D, OEM. Installed it OK and have so far managed to backup 4G of photos to it, trouble is it took something like 4 HOURS to burn. I reckon something must be wrong. The DVD is installed as slave2, both IDEs have a hard drive as master, the other has a CD burner/DVD reader as a slave. I have ASPI, probably a couple of years old by now. I am using the trial version of Nero. DVDs are supposedly 4*, but cheap ones. If I try & record at 4* is get an error & the disc is no longer usable, so the 'successful' burns were done at 2*. So anyone have any suggestions to make it go faster ?

I also got a few + and a few - discs, thought I'd try each type & see what works best, but there must be some kind of consensus on what is best for which use (I'm interested in DVD movie backups, and data backups). Can anyone enlighten me ?

I also got DVDshrink, but from reading the readme it seems as if in compressing a DVD it loses quality, is this loss noticable ? I've seen some copied DVDs that look just terrible.

Thanks for any help,

Nick Bryans

I should have mentioned a few other things...

System is a P4 1.8, 900M ram, W2K.

Master1 40G HD
Slave1 CD-RW/DVDR
Master2 160G HD
Slave2 The Pioneer 107D

Anythiung else just ask...

A 2x burn should take approx 30min for a full DVDR. As you say it took 4 hrs, then the Burn Proof option must have been kicking in, which indicates its not getting the data quick enough. Is DMA turned on for both the HD and 107? Have you defragged the HD that contained the source files? Have you installed any ASPI Layer ?

Thanks,

DMA is on for the HD, not sure about the 107. I do have an ASPI layer, installed it for a SCSI scanner a couple of years ago, which was working fine till the scanner went wrong.

Is there any way to tell what's happening while it's 'working' ?
