New To Divx

Hi I am new to Divx and was wondering if I can get some help. First of all I downloaded the new Vidomi player and encoder I have ripped my movie with smart ripper and followed the great Chickenman's tutorial on DVD2Divx word for word.

My questions are, is AVI - Divx? Might sound silly but I have read that Divx is MP4? yet from what I have read AVI creates MP2 files. Is this correct?

If I rip a movie and create a Divx file using the new Vidomi will it be a true Divx file which only plays in a Divx player? Chickenman's tutorial said that you can play your new AVI file in your windows media player (I thought Divx could only be played in a Divx player).

What are the best ripping and encoding programs to get the best quality movies using Divx?

Any help would be great.

A Divx file is an .avi file. Yes, you can play it in Windows Media Player if you have the proper codecs installed. As of now...if I'm not mistaken, there is not yet a stand-alone Divx player.
