New Sound Card??

Best soundcard is Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I've had Creative Platinum and Audigy and this is what I have now. By the way, I'm a professional sound engineer.

Software nothing more. Most of the MP3 software is either crap or you can find on the internet. Go for the Gamer if you want the games.busto said:
Personally, I purchased an OEM at a computer show. $71.00 out the door. No box or manual, just a CD and the Audigy (there is a .pdf manual on the CD if you need it though).
Although the SB Live is a cheaper solution (they are about $65.00) the integrated IEEE 1394 Firewire port was worth the extra money.
However, I do agree with previous posts recommending Yamaha or Turtle Beach. If you want a card for professional sound, you will spend more but they are better for this function.
But if you want a gaming, mp3, home based card, the Audigy kicks ass!
I'm not sure where you're at, but the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz can be had in the US for $60.00. Cheaper than Creative.
But I don't think the original poster had pro audio in mind. I have a Mia also on my digital recording computer. But on my "gamer browser, downloader" I have a Santa Cruz which I still think blows Creative away, especially when it comes to driver issues.

thanks guys....i got a great deal on the Audigy gamer so i took it so far i seemed to have worked out all the bugs...At first XP kept saying I installed a PCI Modem and it kapt wanting to install it but i just disabled it in the device manager screen and it stopped doing it but now i have it in there with a big X through it anyone know how to get rid of that??....Also anyone know how to turn off the sound it makes at start up right after the windows start up sound??

PCI modem? Very strange...XP must be detecting it incorrectly.busto said:

You are using the most recent drivers from Creative right?! There are Audigy updates that solve some bugs in XP.
What "sound" are you referring to...the Creative Splash Screen?

I tried to uninstall it but it tells me i can't uninstall it...what that's about I don't know. I disabled it and it doesn't give me any problems....the sound is like a start up wav, I've looked and can't find where it is to disable it..It chimes in right after the windows start up wav...The thing that troubles me about it is that it seems to slow mey log on time a tad nothing major just like 30 seconds longer

You had an old soundcard on this system before the Audigy? Did you completely uninstall the drivers, dll files, and registry keys? It's possible that some remnants of the old soundcard are still on your Hard Drive and is recognising your Audigy as a modem. But I guess if it's not causing problems.........
Are you seeing anything when it "chimes in" (ie, a Creative Audigy popup)?

Did you disable onboard audio in the BIOS?!?! Your PCI bus is more that just your PCI slots on your motherboard. Its possible that this old device is being recognised incorrectly. Just a thought.busto said:
Try looking in msconfig/startup and see if there is something there (sorry I don't remember what its called...but I only use minimum drivers on my Audigy as I don't like all the extra crap that installs).

No chimes or popup window (but then again you are not seeing it anyway) with just the the driver install.busto said:
If you don't mind loosing all the extras (I've never used 'em) just install minimum, "let me choose" option on install. Also, I would use the lastest drivers on Creative website and ditch the CD drivers if they are old (mine were).
